About who needs care: Gary is an above knee amputee, and has been for 15 yrs. He is 78 yo and lives in his own house in East Troy. He has bladder cancer since Nov. '23 and will be starting Immunotherapy on Friday, May 24th. He is in a wheelchair and is starting to have problems transferring. He also has severe COPD... not on oxygen, has inhalers that he has problems using properly, He has a permanent catheter in, and after his last surgery they put a tube in that comes out of his right kidney and hooks to another bag. Gary will need a sponge bath 2-3x/week or as needed. Currently doing 2x/week, but he does have problems with leaks. The full bath is upstairs and he can no longer get upstairs. He can drive, but that has to come to an end d/t driving errors & forgetfulness. He is malnourished and has no appetite. He cannot make his own food and wouldn't if he could. Gary will need someone to help him take his morning meds, and use his inhaler. Also, he is supposed to take four high calorie shakes per day, but often needs reminding or needs to be woken up. Gary has lost 42 lb in the last 2 months. He goes to Froedtert Hospital to get cancer care and his infusions for immunotherapy. Gary is very lazy, admittedly, and needs someone to be firm with him. I am his main caregiver, except for CNA-type work. I fill his pill box every week, and by him his over the counter meds, I shop for him, I make and keep track of all his appointments, I go with him to every single appointment he has. I do not live there, but spend most of my time, as much as I can by Gary's house. I feel like I am going to break soon and really need help! I see Gary's memory deteriorating almost weekly. He forgets everything. My concern is with him being so malnourished and weak, how is the immunotherapy going to affect him. Then I may need more support, but that is the big question. As I see it, I don't think Gary is going to respond to it very well. About the care needs: Gary likes to sit on His back porch and look at the flower garden and watch for hummingbirds at his feeders. Gary doesn't have any hobbies and besides the flower garden that I have prepared for him, his interests are sports on television. He especially wants to see the summer Olympics. I have previously listed that Gary needs someone who will be firm with him ie. if he doesn't want to do his inhaler, or take his pills or nutritional shakes. He does get very stubborn with me about taking his shakes. With everything else, it's just a matter of him remembering to do it. If you know someone who can fit as a caretaker for him, I think I have pretty well described him. One more thing, the caretaker cannot be allergic to cats. Also, a non-smoker would be great. Thank you so much! Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
