About who needs care: My 82-year-old mother has been a widow since Apr 2022. She has multiple health issues with the most significant being Type 2 diabetes, kidney disease, chronic back pain, cardiac disease, and osteoarthritis . Her mobility is very limited but she lives alone with my brother next door. She receives 3.5 hours daily assistance in the morning through her long-term care insurance 7 days per week for help with bathing, dressing, transferring, and toileting. The personal care aide also prepares meals and does light housekeeping. Mom still manages her own medications. She has a niece who assists in the afternoon on weekdays and early evenings on weekdays and my brother helps 7 days per week during early mornings, evenings and at bedtime. She has assisted living devices in the home - lift chair, adjustable sleep number bed, ADA toilet, bars and a seat in the shower, and other bars in her living space to aid her in standing up to use her walker. We are seeking supplemental assistance 1) as a backup to her daily long-term care when the agency is unable to provide coverage - their weekend coverage is not reliable and 2) to supplement on the weekend afternoons and evenings or such other times during the week that may be beneficial. Due to loss of dexterity in her hands and fingers, declining eyesight from macular degeneration and limited mobility, she is not able to pursue her former hobbies of sewing, shopping, and canning vegetables. She will attempt her scrapbooking hobby with assistance. She enjoys watching western TV shows. Her alone time is mostly spent sitting and resting. She likes to get out of the house to go somewhere when that is a possibility. Any medical appointments are set up for the afternoon so as not to interfere with the morning assistance from the aide and a family member takes her to her appointments. About the care needs: We are looking for a reliable, pleasant, friendly, and eager-to-work personality. My mother enjoys some conversation but is not seeking a companion aide but rather a personal aide. Nursing skills are not needed. Duties may include assist with a shower or pan bath, dressing/undressing, assisting with toileting hygiene, assist with transferring, meal preparation, laundry and light housekeeping. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
