About who needs care: My dad is 90 years of age and he was very much active before he broke his hip back in December. Now he has a dropped foot and uses a rollator walker and has trouble with putting his left foot flat in order for him to walk. His foot isn't strong and its dropped. He can go to the toilet and sit down and pee, but it takes so much energy to poop and he is just worn out afterwards. He has to have help showering and he uses a shower bench along with hand grips in the shower. He doesn't fix his own food, everything has been prepared for him as well as cleaning up after him. He sometimes does his exercises that the OT and PT have given him to do, and he does put his leg and foot up to try and stretch the muscles in his legs so it will maybe help him walk better and have more energy. He also has to have someone to prepare and give him his meds. He likes to watch basketball games and sometimes baseball games, very little football, nothing at all to do with college games. The structure of his day consists of ; Getting up late and then using the urinal in his bed and then getting his walker and walking to the living room to be out of breath and then lay his head over on a pillow on the couch. After he does that he then eats breakfast that is fixed for him on his tv tray, he has oat milk, protein shake, I try to give him 1/2 a banana for potassium. and then of course his pills are there for him to take along with a glass of cold water. The rest of the day he either sleeps for a long while, or he might watch some tv. eat lunch, pills, in the afternoon PT comes only on like Tues. or Thurs. and he does his exercises and walks more. If its nice out he might go outside for a short while just for some fresh air. he seems to stay cold a great deal of the time. Towards the evening he eats again, takes pills and maybe watch a ballgame or a series of something. He goes to the bathroom and then to his room to watch tv and at about 12:00 a.m. he gets his last round of pills and watches tv until he is asleep. During the night he just turns on his light and uses his urinal and it is poured out and emptied during the night. He doesn't really have any hobbies, it used to be fishing, but he isn't able to fish now. About the care needs: Someone that is patient, because he demands everything and wants it immediately. He's pretty negative and is very opinionated and he is hard of hearing and he doesn't like to wear his hearing aids. If you have thin skin and wear your heart on your sleeves then that won't work for this man. He likes to tell you about his dreams from his nights sleep. He likes fishing stories or stories that others tell that he can hear. I would like to have someone to motivate him into doing his exercises and to want to go outside and not just sleep the day away. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
