About who needs care: Part-time care of son with cerebral palsy while father is away. Mother will be in the home. There are development delays that do not affect caregiving (He is very "high functioning" in speech and can play games, such as Uno. He can also talk about many things). Mother needs assistance with getting him up, bathing, toileting needs, therapy, respite (e. g. mother at supermarket or gym), etc.. We have some coverage through our son's waiver with MHIDD for 5 of the 12 days needed (6/26-7/7). The 5 days the caregiver would be free are 6/27, 6/28, 7/2, 7/4, 7/5. We are requesting assistance for the other 7 days. About the care needs: Brian has a good sense of humor. A friendly, pleasant, outgoing personality would be very helpful. Brian likes the Eagles and '76s very much and follows sports. Sports knowledge would be helpful for some conversations, but it is certainly not a requirement. The caregiver should be able to help him transfer from the sofa to a wheelchair and vice versa (He is about 160 lbs.). My wife is petite. She can get him on the toilet (Bathroom is accessible), but assistance from another person is safer. Help with getting him out of bed (He will be sleeping on a cot for the period) and showering are definitely needed. Also. Brian does daily walking therapy around the first floor of the house with a walker. Assistance is need in guiding the walker from both ends. Services needed include: companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
