About who needs care: My grandmother Diane is 88 living in an independent senior living facility in Halfmoon, NY. She recently had some vascular occlusions in her legs requiring surgical intervention and is working on getting her strength back. She has completed PT/OT and is able to walk with a rollator walker and independently in her house, although sometimes uses a wheelchair to alleviate pain in her legs/feet. She requires minimal assistance with mobility/transfer, just the occasional steadying assist when walking without an assistive device, and help getting in and out of the car. She is petite and weighs less than 90 pounds. She requires assistance with driving and running errands, as she has not driven since her surgery. We would love to find a caregiver who could take her to grocery right down the to road from her house to help her complete here grocery shopping or other errands. She also will require assistance with household tasks such as laundry, vacuuming, cleaning. She does not really cook, so someone who would be able to spend some time food prepping or cooking for her would be a plus. She has a few other chronic medical conditions for which she takes medications daily. Mentally, she is still pretty sharp and can keep her tasks and appointments organized, however she can be a little forgetful or disorganized at times. She is very religious and enjoys listening to and watching church services. She would love to start attending church again if possible, but would require a companion to transport her and help her get around. About the care needs: We are looking for a patient caregiver who has a couple hours of free time here and there to help out. Someone who shared similar religious interests would be a plus, but is definitely not required. Caregivers of all experience levels and backgrounds are welcomed, as Diane is able to communicate her needs and requires minimal assistance with management of medical issues. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
