About who needs care: Bedridden: She had a medical emergency last year. The ailment finally resolved. However, there was too much time in a bed in the hospitals and rehabs due to improper medicine management at the initial rehab facility resulting in her losing the ability to stand and walk. It also resulted in a bed sore that has never resolved. Dementia: She has short term memory and cognitive challenges. However, she can be very alert and hold on conversations. Facility: She resides at an assisted living and care is provided. She is in need of companion care. Someone to talk to and engage her to help reduce the fear from isolation. She has limited use of her arms and hands and cannot stand. She does not watch TV. Her vision is acceptable and her hearing is excellent. About the care needs: Someone that is upbeat, cheerful and very patient. Someone creative in their positive conversations and stories. She likes to get to know people, to hear personal stories, etc. She lived her life focused on animals (dogs and cats, but loves all animals), so someone that likes animals and has animals stories would be a plus. Also someone that has tough skin and understands the mood swings associated with dementia. She can be depressed at times and that prevents her from wanting to eat or be cared for. She generally loves company and I go every day for as many hours as I can. She can also be angry and swear at the staff when her brief is being changed. She gets very fearful of falling out of bed when they turn her side to side. She can also be very nice and caring (which was her norm prior to dementia). The person would need to know to go along with her fictitious and inaccurate stories (part of the delusion of dementia). Services needed include: companionship.
