About who needs care: J is a wonderful 87-year-old woman with late-stage dementia/Alzheimer's. J lives with her husband, G (87), who needs respite and extra help with daily activities 6 days a week, 8 to 10 hours a day. The biggest obstacle we face is finding consistent and competent care for J. We would love to find one or two people to work closely with the family to help with daily routines, spend time with J, and provide her personal care. G and J moved to Northern Colorado last summer from McClean, Virginia to be near their daughters after J dementia began to progress. G and J met in college and married for over 60 years. They are a lovely couple looking for someone to get to know them and assist in J care. A day with them starts around 9:00 a.m. and ends around 8:00 p.m. (or whenever J gets to bed). We divide a day into two shifts: a day shift from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and an evening shift from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (or whenever J gets to bed). The exact hours/shifts are TBD but will look similar to this Monday through Saturday. G takes care of J on Sundays. A full-time schedule would start in late July, but evening shifts can be available sooner! About the care needs: We are looking for a patient, kind, confident, quick-learning, and adaptable caregiver. While prior caregiving experience and/or relevant certifications may be preferred, they are not required. Someone proactive, patient, personable, and attentive, who is willing and able to provide the necessary care for J would be a perfect fit. G is a retired professor who enjoys bird watching, traveling, and art. J, who was also previously a professor of epidemiology, loves animals, kids, and chocolate! Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
