About who needs care: My father is a 75-year-old retiree with a history of heart problems. He received a heart transplant in 2018 (a miracle!), but has struggled with cognitive decline ever since. He is still capable of expressing himself, but his memory and social acumen have started slipping, and his personal care and basic sense of hygiene has become noticeably worse. Sadly, he's also suffered from immense back-pain and spinal stenosis in the last few years, which has rendered him immobile and unable to move around much. As a result, he spends most of his time in bed, which I imagine hasn't been helpful for his mental state / overall disposition. Since my mother is working full time, she is unable to provide the consistent care he needs at this stage, so I am seeking some type of external caretaker to come and help him get up in the morning and perform daily tasks (e. g. showering, remembering to take his meds, etc.). Luckily, he is typically a happy person and doesn't get frustrated or angry, although he is stubborn when we ask him to take care of himself and/or wearing his hearing aids, and so forth. About the care needs: I think my father needs someone with thick-skin (preferably a person who is familiar with stubborn, traditional older men . It would also be useful to have a former nurse or someone who's familiar with the long-term care of transplant recipients. He has struggled with getting to the bathroom on time recently, so the role will definitely require experience with helping older folks with incontinence... My dad LOVES all things God and football - so having a Christian caretaker would be a huge bonus. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
