I've been playing guitar since I was 11, and haven't found anything else that I enjoy half as much. My goal as a teacher is to share that enjoyment with my students, and help them to reach their fullest potential as musicians. As a rule, I do not confine myself or my students to any particular curriculum; every student has different needs, and I find I can best meet them by tailoring lessons to suit. I completed about two years of guitar lessons, and one year of Theory. Private Education: I've taken lessons from a few different instructors over the years, but I'm primarily self-taught. My primary instrument is the electric bass guitar but most of my students up to this point have actually been for acoustic, classical and electric guitar. I also play and teach drums and percussion, piano, and can teach ear training, music theory and songwriting/composition. I also compose music in a variety of styles for multiple instruments. I have an Associates degree in the Arts from the Dallas County Community College district, studied jazz and classical performance at UTA, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Art and Performance from UTD. My focus as a teacher is to identify the specific personal goals of each student and tailor their lesson accordingly. While I believe this is the best place to begin, in order to ferment growth as a musician I will gradually work to expand my students' goals beyond their original intent. Assuming the student shows promise and, more importantly, motivation and willingness to put in the work, the intent is to bring the student to levels of success even greater than their original goals. As a music educator I strive to maintain a balance between teaching music as a science and as an art. I will stress the importance of having at least a basic understanding of reading music, music theory and ear training, but only as a part of a greater whole. I believe that emotional impact, on the performer, and from the performer to the audience, is the most important aspect of music by far. Formal Education: Graduated high school in 3 years at age 16 from Bryan Adams high school. Associates degree awarded from DCCCD in Music. Studied jazz and classical performance at UTA, Bachelor's Degree awarded in Arts and Performance from UTD Performing Experience: I have performed throughout the DFW area since 2001 Experience Teaching: I spent most of my college years tutoring music theory informally. by Taylor Robinson Music
Winnetka, CA
Years of Experience: 11 Location Options: In Studio, In Home Travel Radius: 40 Genres: Rock, Blues, Country, Acoustic Age Groups: Children, Young Adult, Adult Instruments Taught: Guitar Lessons,Song Writing Lessons Overview: I was born in Stuttgart, Germany and raised in Northern California in a small town called Clearlake. My father brought me up listening to people like Jimi Hendrix, Bob Seger, Van Morrison, The Temptations and more. I had a deep love for music all of my life and when he bought me my first guitar at age 11 I was unstoppable from that moment forward. I received four years of private lessons from a Musician's Institute graduate and knew from there that music was all I ever wanted out of life and dedicated my life to studying the guitar and music to one day be able to be like my heroes out on stage. After high school I lived for a year in the real world, never liked it, and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a degree in music from Musician's Institute, which I graduated from in September in 09. I now perform with my original project Typical Situation, as well as having performed with other great acts such asThe Big Joe Hurt Band, Rakoon and Carreyo (Sony/BMG). I have done work for David Coury's Singing For The Actor class as a background musician and more! My main influences are Jimi Hendrix, John Frusciante, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Philip Sayce. My strongest musical styles are Blues, Rock, Funk, Soul, Hip Hop, Rap, RB and Smooth Jazz. Although with my education I am qualified to teach all other styles. As a teacher I believe that the key to learning the Guitar is to start by creating the finger strength to play, beginning with warm up exercises and some simple scale work to really build up your fingers strength as well as dexterity. Once they are in good shape, only takes about a week or two, I can start teaching how to solo and play chords and build a basic knowledge and understanding of the Guitar and how to use it as naturally as you use your own hands! From there, you'll move on to whatever style of music interests you, while learning how to use techniques from other styles of music to compliment your style of choice! * Formal Education: AA degree in Guitar and Performance, minor Music Business and Sound Engineering from Musician's Institute Private Education: 4 years of private lessons from a Musician's Institute graduate, and the school of hard knocks. Performing Experience: Performed with a wide variety of artists, as well as extensive performing experience during my time at Musician's Institute, some studio session work, and experience playing in some of Hollywoods biggest clubs including the House of Blues and The Whiskey A-Go-Go. Have also played at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino's Wasted Space Club in Las Vegas multiple times. Experience Teaching: Taught children and adults for 2 years during my time in Northern California before moving to Los Angeles to begin school at Musician's Institute.

I played only a year or two because my parents saw I was uninterested for the time being. I then began playing the piano, and much enjoyed that for the next 4 years. (I'll tell you getting me to practice was rough, but it payed out well for my future) Around the end of that time I had been playing in the school bands (percussion) and became greatly interested in the drums. To tell you the truth my teacher didnt feel I was motivated enough, but never the less he gane me my 1st few lessons and I was off. I practiced and practiced that basic groove he gave me, bought my 1st kit and the rest is history as they say!! In the next few years I preceeded to take some lessons and play with all the bands I could get into. Mostly friend's bands and the lot, but that helped me to learn the cover songs we were to perform. I found out that playing by ear in is not such a bad way to learn this craft. I'll admit my skills weren't all that, but I could play along with most any song I heard. This would only last so long, playing along with tracks can only get you so far. I then found myself playing with my church for youth group. This helped with having set parts, improving my timing, and being a more solid drummer which every group needs. After high school throughout the next 5 years I continued to play with many of the local churches for youth groups and special nights of worship. This gave me the opportunity to perform with different groups of musicians, adjusting for the different skill levels we were at and dealing with having "gigs" as you might call it. Needing to perform at certain times and knowing the materials that were given. Mostly it was a chance to thank God for the abilities he had given me. In 2006 I attended Musicians Institute enrolled into the drum program. This is where I saw the biggest jump in my skiils, this course gave us opportunity to learn and be taught by professionals in this field. In classes such as Live Playing Workshops, in which we performed a variety of styles and were critiqued by teachers on everything from timing, performance, to leading the other musicians. Other classes included: reading, playing techniques, rock/jazz drums, along with private lessons once a week. Throughout this year long program I developed an interest in other areas of music such as: Intro to Bass (which presented the basics and theory of the guitar and the needs for performing with others), Intro to Songwriting (which helped us with struturing songs, developing lyrics/melodies and co-writing), also Playing with Loops (which teaches drummers to play with pre-arranged beats, grooves, and samples and add other possibilities for performance with electronic music, i.e. MIDI). In 2008 I then attended SAE Institute for the Electronic Music Production program. This 6 month course gave us the introductions to many production software programs, specifying in Reason, Logic, Ableton and Pro Tools. Overviewing the structure, tools, and abilities of these programs. This is where the drumming had left off, being able to create drums and other instruments using the computer. Other class topics included: understanding different types of mics and there uses, learning about mixers, hardware componenets and all the neccessary connections, and other production tools such as mixing and mastering your music, proper monitoring/environments, and working in real-world situations. Currently I continue my endeavors in the Palm Springs area, where I have built a small studio within my house. Drumming and music production are the orders of the day, as I keep persuing my goals of getting into film scoring, soundtracks and creating my own signature style, and as always to save the music! * Formal Education: I attended Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA during 2006-07' I studied at SAE Institute in Manhattan, NY from 2008-09' Private Education: I studied violin at a young age, played piano for 4 years, been on the drums since I was 11, and found my way into music production in 2006. Performing Experience: I played in Beginning and Advanced bands in schoolas well as a few local groups in high school, and several churches, playing for worship and a numbers of venues. Experience Teaching: I taught some side lessons during my time at Musicians Institute, and a few friends during my years of playing.
