    Nicholas's Music Lessons (Guitar)

    by Taylor Robinson Music

    San Antonio, TX

Years of Experience: 7 Location Options: In Home, In Webcam Travel Radius: 50 Genres: Rock, Acoustic Age Groups: Children, Young Adult, Adult Instruments Taught: Guitar Lessons Overview: Hello, my name is Nicholas, I am a former heavy metal vocalist for a group that I performed I wrote music with from 2006-2013. However, the first time I picked up a guitar was in 2004. I took lessons with a former high school teacher, I incorporated those teachings into the writing process of our group. I also have more experience in the music industry; such as stagehanding, maintaining sound quality during live performances, as well as experience working in a recording studio. Formal Education: I have some formal education in reading sheet music as well as notes for different instruments during my time in the music program in my high school as well as some in college. I also learned scales and the basic notes on guitar from my instructor in my personal lessons. Performing Experience: Although I joined a group in 2006, we didn't start performing live on stage until about 2008. We performed in different venues across the state of Texas for the next 5 years. Since the group ended I still perform solo shows, playing the guitar as well as performing lead vocals. I am still active in the community always looking for more opportunities to perform. Experience Teaching: As far as my experience in teaching goes, I feel I became more attuned with playing guitar in about 2009. I started first teaching my siblings as well as many of my younger relatives. I also have taught many people from the ages of 16-25. I continue to teach some of my fellow peers, I enjoy to constantly learn new things as I teach people what I know as well as discovering more techniques in playing guitar. -Reviews- Name: Cassie L Date: 2017-05-10 19:53:11 Title: Absolutely worth my time! Body: I have known Nicholas for about 7 years now, and I have to say that his influence has been crucial to both my guitar playing and stage performance. I have personally had 30+ guitar lessons with Nicholas and have been to many of his live performances over the years and would absolutely consider him as a mentor in my 5 years of performing. Nicholas has helped me to build setlists that compliment both my guitar and vocals stylings and even assisted on stage during my first live performance at a local music venue. I would say that Nicholas is a very laid-back and well-rounded musician who has always been a reliable source for honest feedback and motivation. Thanks, Nick!

Years of Experience: 10 Location Options: In Home, In Webcam Travel Radius: 25 Genres: Rock, Blues, Jazz, Classical, Country, Acoustic, Christian, RB, Gospel, Pop Age Groups: Children, Young Adult, Adult, Under 6 Years Instruments Taught: Guitar Lessons,Bass Guitar Lessons,Keyboard and Piano Lessons,Vocal Lessons,Song Writing Lessons Overview: Hi, my name is Emery, and I am a musician from San Antonio. I have been a student of music for ten years. My musical influences include Pink Floyd, Ghost, System of a Down, Bach, Chopin, Trivium, The Cult, Audioslave, Soundgarden, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. I also enjoy Jazz. My teaching style can best be described as interactive. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I engage with my students, learn about their experiences not only as a musician, but also as a person, and incorporate those into the lesson for a more personal and enjoyable experience. In my lessons, you can expect to learn everything you wanted to learn, and more. I like to tell my students don't let the last note you played/hit influence the next, the past cannot dictate the future. My favorite thing about teaching is the "ahh" moment when my students finally understand and find the answer to the question that's been on their minds. My favorite performance of another musician was Serj Tankian with the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra. My students love that I understand and engage in their personal lives, because music comes from the soul. I primarily teach bass, guitar, music theory, and vocals, but I can also teach keys. My approach as a teacher is to not show my students how to play the songs, but to teach them the techniques and let them add their own flourish to the pieces. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon! Private Education: I attended School of Rock San Antonio for two years. Performing Experience: I have performed at numerous events and venues, including, but not limited to: River City Rockfest 2017 (Opening for Def Leppard), Summerfest 2017 (Opening for Willie Nelson/Bob Dylan), Aztec Theatre twice in 2017 (Headline), Rock Box 2, Fitzgeralds Bar 2. Jeffrey's Music Lessons (Guitar, Bass Guitar, Production, Song Writing, Vocal)

    by Taylor Robinson Music

    San Antonio, TX

Years of Experience: 12 Location Options: In Studio Travel Radius: 15 Genres: Rock, Country, Acoustic, Pop Age Groups: Children, Young Adult, Adult Instruments Taught: Guitar Lessons,Bass Guitar Lessons,Vocal Lessons,Song Writing Lessons,Record Engineer Produce Overview: My name is Jeffrey. I was born and raised in the San Antonio, Texas area. I have been playing the guitar since I was 11, and music has always been a huge part of my life. I started playing shows with a band when I was 13. Back then, it was more of just something I did, rather than a career choice, but once I graduated high school and had the opportunity to pursue whatever my heart desired, I decided that the only thing I care about doing is music. I devote most of my time playing, writing and performing music with my current band (Between Then And Now), and when I'm not doing things with the band, I'm promoting, marketing, networking, and practicing to enhance my skills. I picked up singing around 3 years ago and have been enhancing my skills on a daily basis. I am also proficient in bass, and I record music in my spare time. Formal Education: I was in band class in middle school where I had played the tuba. Band class is where I got a solid idea of how rhythm works, how time signatures exist within music, how to read (and sight read) music, and generally how to keep up with a full band as a whole. I took music appreciation where I had learned about how music was like from literally the beginning of time, to modern day era. I learned how music affected us as musicians, and where music began to evolve into a more formulated structure as seen in pop song hits we have today. I was in band class for two years of high school, where I had played percussion instruments. In those classes I learned how to keep up with extensive rhythm, and how to further elaborate my time signature skills, as well as being the backbone of the full band. Private Education: My private education involved copious amounts of music theory. I had spent hours with my instructor in which he taught me the basics of music theory, and eventually more advanced content. I learned complex musical languages, such as circle of fifths, differences between harmonies and melodies, key annotations in music, advanced time signatures, major and minor scales, scale degrees, modes, basic chords, diminished chords, 7-9-11 chords, chord progressions, transcribing music to different keys, applying key changes mid song, getting advanced look at song structures, and many many more things I had picked up either through my then music teacher, or through simply reading about it in my various music books. Performing Experience: As of recently, my current band, Between Then And Now, has been playing shows in the San Antonio era, where we have been drawing crowds of around 30-60 people every show. We have been told that we are filled with energy and know how to keep a crowd entertained, on top of having great music to go with it. This is the last band I plan on performing in, as I plan on this band to take me and our members straight to the top of the music industry. Experience Teaching: As of recently, though, I got serious about teaching when I took my best friend of the last 5 years, Ashwin Chary, under my wing. Ashwin wanted to learn how to play guitar, but didn't really know how or where to start. I helped him pick out an acoustic guitar (since in my opinion, that's the absolute best type of guitar for a beginner to start), and from there I've taught him proper guitar holding technique, how to properly strum a guitar with down/up movements, how to form various chords, how to fit those chords in with various other chords, how to apply scales to the songs he's writing, how repition in music is never a bad thing, how to write in 4/4 and 3/4 time signatures (, and even both at the same time), how to properly jump around the fretboard seemlesly, and just about anything that a beginning guitar player would NEED to know. This started in January of this past year, and the progress he's made since then has blown my mind. He always tells me that without me and the lessons I have been giving him, he wouldn't be nearly as good as he is right now, and that warms my heart. There's still a lot of teaching to give to him, but right now, he's been progressing at a rate that I've never really seen before. -Reviews- Name: Mr. Nicholas Zook Date: 2016-08-12 20:16:25 Title: Mr. Jeffrey L. Body: My very first experience with Mr. Jeffrey L. was incredible, we had met in a Barnes and Nobles book store in the music section, I was looking for books teaching Bass Guitar and he was reading a book about Music Theory, I had asked him if he was a musician or teacher of the sort and he said that he was and was offering lessons based on instrument and degree of complexity. If it wasn't for running into Mr. Jeffrey L. that day, I would not have been able to be so proficient at Jazz Bass Guitar as I am now, after taking private lessons with Mr. Jeffrey L. he would show me how music is translated and interacting with other instruments. For example the relationship between Drum and Bass, and Bass and Rhythm Instruments. I wouldn't have dreamed of being able to play a drum kit, or bass guitar, or a piano even, if it wasn't for the delicate advice and guidance of Mr. Jeffrey L.. All in all Mr. Jeffrey L. made me a better LISTENER, I have never been able to sit down and create the best material I can musically, I owe where I am at today to Mr. Jeffrey L.'s professionalism and his knowledge of the musical realm.
