Michael's Music Lessons (Guitar)
by Taylor Robinson Music
Los Angeles, CA
Years of Experience: 5 Location Options: In Studio, In Home Travel Radius: 20 Genres: Rock, Blues, Jazz, Classical, Country, Acoustic Age Groups: Children, Young Adult, Adult Instruments Taught: Guitar Lessons Overview: My interest in music started at a very young age due to my father playing drums in a jazz group, my mother was always playing her favorite Broadway tunes on the piano, and my siblings both playing wind instruments in the school band. All of my family would often teach me what they knew of their chosen instruments but it wasn't until fourth grade that I decided to follow my brother in taking up the alto sax. The very next year my instructor noticed my profound interest in the instrument and suggested my talents would be better suited to the more melodic lines often arranged for the tenor saxophone. Soon after I joined the jazz band and received superior ratings for performance in various competitions. At the age of 10 I was introduced to the guitar by a family friend who was taking lessons on his father’s old Gibson SG at a local music shop. I was fascinated by this particular instrument mainly because I felt it would allow me to play the more modern songs I liked, no longer restricted to the more classic pieces chosen by my school teachers. After many years under the instruction of several accomplished teachers I continued learning at my own pace. During this time I worked as the assistant manager of that very same music shop where I started taking lessons. I also formed a band with some high school friends and we began frantically writing songs, and played local gigs. Soon after entering the studio, our music was recognized by an Italian record label who offered to release our music globally. A full length album and a North American tour would result and while the band is still active, I have instead opted to continue my education in guitar performance at Musicians Institute. * Formal Education: AS Degree in Music, Acquired December 2009 Suffolk County Community College Deanrsquo;s List; GPA in major 3.6 Bachelors Degree: In Progress at Musicians Institute. Private Education: Studied Classical, jazz, and rock with Peter Rogine, Tim Siciliano, Michael Belajonas, Kirk Roth, and Mitch Holder. I' m from France. I've been playing music since i was 8years old. I started with the guitar, but also been playing ( and teaching ) bass and ukulele for the past 5 to 7 years. I also play drums and a bit of keys. I got my certificate from the music school in Nancy, France ( M.A.I. ) at the age of 19. Then I moved to Paris where i lived for almost 7 years; i taught music and played with several bands (collaborating on the writing ) and singers, touring and doing studio work.I've also been working as a session musician for Polydor, Universaland Sony Music with some projects. I moved out of France in 2010 looking into experiencing a new music scene, while continuing on working with my band in south of France and a folk singer with Sony Music Fr. I spent a 8-months break in Chicago ( with my girlfriend, who became my wife ) studying jazz guitar and classical piano intensively through very experienced american musicians. Then we moved to Peru to volunteer for 4 months with an NGO in a little village North of Cusco. We got back to the States early 2011 and ending up moving to Los Angeles last march where I have been settling down, getting a taste of the Californian music scene, and starting some new projects with people i met here. Formal Education: Certificate from Music Academy International in Nancy, France. Diploma with honors in guitar ( all style, from metal, rock to jazz and fusion ). The school is linked to The Berkley College in Boston, MA. Private Education: 10 years of private classes in my hometown in France from the age 8 to 18. Trained in rock, blues guitar ( electric/acoustic ). Performing Experience: Professional experience in Paris, France for the past 7 years as a live and session musician while teaching music. Playing guitar, bass, ukulele with several touring acts in Europe( bands and pop singers ) ; toured all over France, and been to Asia a couple times between 2006 and 2008. I've also been writing my own material with my bands, releasing EPs and touring. Experience Teaching: 7 years experience teaching guitar in Paris, France. Private classes at my studio teaching guitar, bass or ukulele ( teenagers and adults ) ; at the same time a few days a week for 5 years i taught in two different places : a private music school giving bass and guitar lessons to adults once a week, then teaching little kids ( 5 to 12 ) guitar in a community center a couple days a week. I also worked with a NGO in Peru last year teaching kids music through games ( and also teaching french and english to teenagers and adults ) in a little village North of Cusco.
