Service L
12/14/2015
We used this provider for more than five years and were very satisfied for the majority of the time. During the past 1-2 years the service level declined and this resulted in our terminating service recently. We do not have safety or care concerns, rather the level of professionalism the business was operated with is what changed. The rules started being applied inconsistently to individual families. Rather than having set guidelines that parents can count on, the hours that we could leave our child were expected to be different than what other parents were allowed to do. Specifically, there was a stated maximum of a 10 hour day (which is consistent with many child care services), but we were told we would not be allowed to leave our child more than 1/2 hour past work, even though they had not been there for 10 hours and there were other things that needed to be done before pick up. The closing time in the contract was 5:00, but we were expected to pick our child up earlier and not allowed to vary according to our needs. Rather, we were told that other people's needs would take priority over ours because she knew our work schedule usually allowed for an earlier pick up. This specific example was a more recent problem and ended up being the ultimate reason services were terminated, but the general trend over the recent past had been to increase money while reducing effort and once it became obvious that we would no longer receive the services we needed and had come to expect, we decided it was time to make a change. We believe that equal services should be available to everyone paying for a full time slot, regardless of the reason for using the full day or not. The maximum level of service is what is being paid for and it should consistently be available for parents to use if needed. If less than the maximum is used at any time, that should be at the parent's discretion and considered a pleasant surprise to the provider. This is the only way to ensure that the same rules are applied fairly to everyone because any time they choose not to use the maximum available it would be of their own doing that they did not receive the full benefit for what they paid. It doesn't seem like a good business practice for the provider to apply the rules inconsistently between different families based on her prerogative. We realize that there should be rules and everyone should follow them, but they should also be applied fairly. Hopefully this review will be helpful to others in being able to decide in advance whether or not this is something they are willing to accept if they use this particular provider.
