Live-in Home Care Needed For My Grandmother In Baton Rouge - She ...
$10 – $17/hr • Full time • Starts May 17 • Baton Rouge, LA
About who needs care: She had a hip replacement in the passed year, she gets around relatively well with her walker. She suffers from earlystages of dementia, she has always been an independent woman, and so this is a big change for her having to have people take care of her now rather than the other way around. It does get hard for her sometimes so you have to have grace. She loves watching the birds and watching the news, the news is something we wish we could get her to stop watching so much BUT she is a worrier so she HAS to know what is going on in the world.
her typical day would be wake up at 5:30-6:00am and get helped to get dressed and her Depends on (she just needs help getting them up, she is pretty capable of taking care of the unmentionable bits). She would then go to the restroom and then to her recliner and given a cup of coffee (what I am outlining is the routine i have done with her and my toddler for the passed 7 months, almost literally 24/7 for the entirety) She loves nature shows and documentaries about places far and wide. She also has a hidden sense of humor and if you unlock it and are lucky enough to witness her hilarious but RARE quick wit that can make you blush, you may count yourself blessed, that means she likes you. Around noon-1:00pm she needs her lunch ( getting her to make a decision can be difficult, have patience) she needs to take her Iron after lunch.
Get her to move around, or let her piddle around to keep her mobile, she is too scared to go down the steps of her house except for doctors appointments, so getting her outside for some sun has yet to happen (its 2 steps, but when she broke her hip she said it was the worse pain in her life so I would reckon her fear is justifiable) At 6:00 pm on the dot if not before, her two dogs need to be fed, or you can get the little bag out and let her do it herself ( I do this with my toddler, but I've always done it and whoever stays here usually does it, they are small dogs (small/medium) and only one has her moments of grouchiness, after this, before 7:00 dinner must be had, she will be ready to go to sleep around 10-11 but if 6:00 will come too early you can ask her to head to bed around 9, that's what my Dad does when he stays, however, I do not have the courage to tell my 90 year old Nana that its past her bedtime.
About the care needs: calm, patient, productive, someone who can carry a conversation with her and engage with her. Someone with a sense of humor would do wonders, if you can make her laugh you have a better chance at unlocking her wit.
Maybe if they have an interest in birds, but that is not a necessity someone who will speak to her with respect, not be rough with her but patient, caring , and kind even if she is having a moment, especially when she is having a moment.
Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing. ... more
