Having a baby can be completely overwhelming. Between the sleepless nights and the confusing and often contradictory advice in baby books, it can be challenging for new parents and their families. Once you think you've gotten the routine down, your baby grows and changes. Hiring an experienced, knowledgeable child care partner will help give you confidence and allow you to enjoy more treasured moments with your growing family. Ive personally helped hundreds of families manage the care and inevitable stress of life with a newborn. As a pediatric traveling nurse, Ive had the opportunity to work in numerous children s hospitals throughout the country, collecting a wealth of tips, tricks and best practices for raising a child that I now share with my private clients. As your in-home concierge nurse, we'll work together to tailor a customized family-centered child care plan for you and your baby. -Melanie S. RN, BSN, CPN

Melanie is wonderful!! Both of my kids bonded with her immediately as did I. It was reassuring to know my kids were in the best hands, given that she is a registered nurse that specializes in babies. Doesn't get any better than that. She is very knowledgeable, responsible, trustworthy and sweet. I would definitely recommend Melanie for new moms or any parent that wants a high quality and highly qualified caregiver.

"Out of School Time" (OST) Guiding Hands Learning Center, located in El Segundo Plaza, offers a variety of programs for children of all ages. We offer before and after school programs, individualized tutoring and lesson planning, and educational workshops for children ages 4 and up. We offer a small, safe, and fun environment for children to learn and practice developmental skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.

Our before school program begins at 7am and includes transportation to school. We have a safe, reliable van that we use for all transportation and a certified staff member with a class B license who transports the children. Because our programs are for children ages 4 and up, even if your child isn't in school yet or is home schooled, he or she is still welcome to join our "Before School" program to meet new friends, work on age appropriate worksheets and lessons, and expand his/her knowledge!

Our After School program (grades K-5) also includes transportation - children are picked up from school and will be brought to our learning center, where they will receive assistance in completing their homework, be given individualized lesson plans and worksheets to enhance their understanding of what they're learning in school, and will have the chance to make friends from different schools! Parents are expected to pick children up from the center by 6:30 p.m., but we are flexible if you need a later pick-up time! We cater to all local elementary schools.

All of our tutoring sessions are one hour long and are taught by certified, experienced college graduates. We offer tutoring for grades K-12, including GED and SAT prep. All of our tuition fees are fair and affordable, and there is not any kind of registration fee! Appointments for tutoring are required and can be made by calling or emailing us. Educational weekend workshops are held once or twice a month and all children ages 4 and up are welcome. Workshops include arts and crafts; interactive group games; a fun, education-based lesson; and other organized activities!

For more information on any of our programs, please contact Ramsey, Program Coordinator by phone 310-524-0021. We look forward to helping your child succeed socially and academically!

Acclaimed as an exemplary model of early childhood education throughout the world, the Reggio Emilia approach to education is committed to the creation of conditions for learning that will enhance and facilitate children's construction of their own powers of thinking through expressive, communicative and cognitive languages. The philosophy of our center is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach and is based upon the following principles that take place in the pre-primary schools in this city in northern Italy:
Emergent curriculum expands upon the interests of children. Topics for deep study are captured from the talk of children, through community or family events, and the known interests of children. Teachers work together to come up with ideas about the possible directions of a project, the materials needed, and possible parent and/or community support and involvement.
Projects take place as in-depth studies of concepts, ideas, and interests of the group. They may last one day, weeks, a month, or could continue throughout the school year. Teachers help children make decisions about the direction of study, together they research the topic, work with representational medium to demonstrate the topic and select the materials needed to represent the work.
The Reggio Emilia approach calls for the integration of various medium as tools for development. Creations of concepts and hypotheses take place through various forms of representation such as print, art, construction, drama, music, puppetry, shadow play, and many other means. These are considered languages and are essential to children's understanding of their experiences and the world around them.
Collaborative large and small group work is considered valuable and necessary to advance intellectual development. Children are encouraged to dialogue, critique, compare, negotiate, hypothesize, and problem solve through group work. Within the Reggio Emilia approach multiple perspectives promote both a sense of group membership and the uniqueness of self. Collaboration extends from the school into the community.
The teacher's role is complex. Working as co-teachers, the role of the teacher is to be that of a learner alongside the children. The teacher is a researcher, a resource, a guide and a designer of the environment. Teachers carefully listen, observe, and document children's work. Teachers are committed to their own learning as well.
