About who needs care: Parkinson's, Type 1 diabetes since childhood. Frequent falls. Needs supervision when walking (uses walker whenreminded) and help getting in and out of chair. Help with getting meals. He spends a lot of time on his lap top computer watching videos on various subjects. Needs basic assistance with his computer on a daily basis. He is a retired physicist and enjoys talking about his work. He was a championship level bicycle racer in his prime and coached a woman's team of cyclists for many years. Has bicycled throughout his life and now rides a Cat trike when his health allows.
About the care needs: Female caregiver would be ideal as this would meet his expectations. He is hard of hearing and person with good vocal volume and good English peaking skills is ideal. Also, would like someone who would remain calm in the event he falls or if something else untoward occurs; they would provide assessment of any injuries, clean any abrasions, and apply band aids if needed. He has a continuous blood glucose monitor for managing his diabetes. Should be able to help him read result on monitor if his eyes don't see the number correctly. Be able to fix him lunch and give him snacks from foods in the house. Take him out for short walks with walker or rollator when weather is nice. Someone who shares his interest in bicycling, weightlifting, gardening, kitty cats, or audio equipment would be helpful.
