5 Reasons You Didn’t Get the Job

It’s hard not to get discouraged after going on interview after interview and not getting the job.

It may seem like everyone else is landing these great positions and why are you not getting hired?

Let’s go over a few things that not be helping your job search.

  1. You seem rushed or show up late.  It’s imperative that families know that you are dependable and can be on time.  Try to be a few minutes early to the interview and don’t be rushed.  Showing up late shows you don’t value the family’s time.
  2. You are not dressed appropriately.  Think about the job you are applying for.  As a nanny or a babysitter, you are taking care of children and it’s best to wear comfortable clothing that you can move around in that looks professional as well.  As a rule of thumb, I always suggest wearing slacks and a nice blouse to the interview.  This shows that you take the jobs seriously.
  3. You are not prepared.  Make sure that you bring anything that the family asks you to bring. Often they ask for letters of recommendation from previous employers and a resume.  It’s imperative that you bring these items.
  4. It’s not the right fit, sometimes it is this simple.  You will know when you find the right family to work with.   You will bond with the children and the family and everything will fall into place.
  5. You get too comfortable too soon.  Make sure you don’t overshare and keep it professional.  This means to remember it’s a business relationship.
