As a person who has little to none flirting capability, and can’t spot it at all if someone is flirting with me, I’m usually a disaster when trying to find out if someone likes me. Despite this handicap, I luckily found the love of my life through our embarrassing acts of flirting. It took some time to realize that he actually liked me, but with time and distance, I can now appreciate our awkward courtship. Here is how I figured out my now husband was into me.
- High fives. Yes it’s innocent, and doesn’t always mean that someone likes you in that way, but for us it remains a staple of flirtation. I remember constantly getting high fives from him and not thinking much of it, and then his high fives seemed to linger. One time his fingers actually laced with mine and I thought I was going to pass out.
- Staring. I caught him staring at me several times when I would speak. I mean, that’s the polite thing to do, look at someone to show you are paying attention to what they are saying, but the look in his eyes was more than just listening. At first, it made me feel awkward and made my cheeks turn pink, but now I know he was staring at me in that everything-she-says-is-awesome way because I know that’s how I stared at him too.
- Touching. This probably goes hand-in-hand with high-fives (no pun intended), but if someone likes you, they will find a way to get their hands on you. Sounds creepy, but if you like the person back, a touch on the arm or back, or even a friendly hug will make you feel warm and giddy on the inside.
- Laughing. They will laugh at almost anything you say. I never have thought of myself as a funny person, but he would laugh at my jokes anyway, and I at his. For some reason, when you like a person, everything they say is important and funny, and to this day everything he says is still important and his jokes are still funny.
- He says so. There is no other sign more obvious that he likes you than when he actually says he does. I will never forget the feeling I felt when he told me for the first time through text, and then feeling it all over again in person.
So, these signs may be a little tame and innocent, but these are the signs he showed me all those years ago, and I think of them regularly and I still feel the same high-school-girl-in-love way. So next time you’re wondering if that special someone may be into you, just remember these signs he likes you.
