About who needs care: Mom is bi-polar and is highly functional. She has been under the careful watch of her psychiatrist who has been instrumental in keeping her regulated and out of institutions. It takes her longer to do things than most people, but she values her independence and she does her laundry, dishes, dresses and bathes herself.
She helps in meal preparation and enjoys her flower garden and bird watching and walks in her neighborhood.
Mom is a former pediatric nurse and loves children. She has volunteered in the past to teach children to read in a local elementary school. Pre-pandemic, she attended classes each semester at College of Older Adults She loves to talk and can strike up a conversation with anyone, anytime, anywhere.
An ideal day for Mom would be having a leisurely morning, going out to lunch at an outdoor restaurant - getting out of the house in general - having an hour nap after lunch, calling up friends to talk, reading at home, going on a walk with a friend, having dinner at home and watching a movie at night.
About the care needs: We are looking for a female vaccinated companion more than a caregiver. Mom has a great sense of humor, so she surely will be looking for someone relaxed that she can laugh with, but also someone who knows when it is time to go home and rest if the day gets to be too overwhelming. Mom needs rides to appointments and to get out of the house to go on walks or go out to lunch. She needs someone to talk to during the day or at lunch dates with her. She needs the house cleaned at least once a week. She needs assistance with meal preparation for the evening meal around 6 or 6:30.
We ask that the companion assist Mom with whatever is on her calendar, appointments, gardening, light housework, etc. Mom will always have something going on! Ideally you don't care about politics at all... it's a topic to avoid altogether with Mom.
Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
