Let’s practice our drawing techniques with this Beatrix Potter inspired mouse! Potter was a popular English writer and illustrator, responsible for classic stories such as “Peter Rabbit”. This week we are mimicking her whimsical style to draw an adorable mouse. Students will get to practice line and form to set up a successful composition with a distinct background and foreground. They will also learn valuable cross hatching techniques to express value and light. Perfect class for children ages 7-9 years old. 90-min class We will use a variety of media, including watercolor, acrylic & tempera paints, oil pastels, mixed media, and clay for our intermediate classes throughout the school-year!

Tumble 2 is designed to take your athletes tumbling to the next level. Athletes will learn to increase speed and power in running tumble connections. This class will train Roundoff Back Handsprings, Tucks, Layouts and Twisting. Athletes are required to have an unassisted Standing Back Handspring and Power Hurdle Roundoff.

Alice is so excited to offer classes this Winter at We Rock the Spectrum! Music with Alice, a 40-45 minute family music class, welcomes babies, toddlers and preschoolers along with their parents, grandparents and caregivers to come together every week to sing together! These special classes will include an hour of gym time at We Rock the Spectrum (built in to the price of each class.) *Siblings under 1 years of age are free! Please just let me know you are bringing them! * **Babies under 1 that come alone MUST register.** ***WRTS gym members can request a code to deduct the cost of the open gym.*** These classes are highly engaging to all ages, as Alice teaches everyone finger play activities, hand movements, lap songs, call and response singing and a big jam at the end with shakers and kids instruments.* (*Participants are encouraged to bring their own instruments to class) Each class is full of music from the folk tradition that are so simple with lyrics and movements easy enough for both baby, toddler, and adult to learn. These classes have a flow that allows quiet soothing and also lots of movement and big fun! These classes encourage bonding and create special memories that will last forever after the class. We believe that all children should experience authentic music making which will increase the whole family’s musical confidence and give them a healthy relationship to music at an early age.

This class is for families with children getting ready for preschool, looking for socialization and a longer more structured class. During this class we will come together for morning circle, creative activity, free play and neighborhood exploration. The morning will end with a closing circle.

Join us, every other Friday for a KIDS NIGHT OUT! We have been having such a blast with the kids on Fridays and love creating, eating pizza and now we are adding MOVIE TIME! We added movie to the night due to popular demand ( The Kids ) . The movie ( age appropriate animated kids movie) will be quietly playing in the background. If you want to check on which movie - just give us a call. Kids do not have to watch the movie and it will not be the main focus. From tiny plankton, the base of it all, to krill, fish, seals, and mighty sharks, we'll uncover the predator-prey relationships that connect ocean life. Students will investigate different marine habitats, learn about amazing sea creatures, and discover how energy flows through the underwater ecosystem. Get ready to untangle the web of life in the big blue!

Whether it's a teacher workday or student holiday, when school's out, your child (ages 5-14) can come to NoVA PlayLabs to have a different kind of fun. They will spend their time with us participating in a mix of active and quiet play, independent and collaborative activities, and intellectual and creative projects. Students can bring their homework or other assignments to complete during free choice time. Please pack a lunch, a water bottle, and two snacks.

The Giggling Pig is a place where everyone is welcome to join in the fun and be themselves! So in celebration of MLK and our mission to inspire unique expression we’re painting these colorful "Hands of Hope". Students will practice their blending techniques as they depict the colors of the rainbow. Then, after they've learned all about ROYGBIV, they’ll experiment with mixing all those colors together to get an array of skin tones. While exploring color, we see that though there is a whole spectrum of different outcomes, they all contain parts of the same rainbow.

This week we’re celebrating the truly iconic artist and activist Augusta Savage! Known for her sculptures and influential art gallery, Savage is responsible for educating and encouraging a generation of nationally renowned artists born out of the Harlem Renaissance. We will experiment with the tactile approach of clay by making an antelope bust. Students will expand their sculpting techniques while learning about armature support construction, troubleshooting with different approaches to balance and application. To top it all off, they will add their own lively touch by painting their masterpiece, focusing on value and form.
