Part Time Certified Nursing Assistant
I started working with the elderly when I was 14, as a bed maker, and I knew at that time what I was meant to do. I have worked in nursing homes and assisted living up until the last three years. Then I went on my own to do private care in the home setting. I find that this is even more rewarding because I can give the one on one attention I feel every individual deserves. While working in the assisted living setting, I was a team leader for eight years on a locked dementia unit. My responsibilities included training of new staff, serving meals, all activities of daily living, doctor appointments, outings for the residents (as in lunch dates, shopping), and light exercise to keep our residents as active as possible. I have also done hospice care, which can be hard at times, but I find it very rewarding to help a person on their next journey. In 2008 I was awarded the Martin Luther King award, being recognized for my work with dementia. I am looking to work with an individual in the home setting. I will help with all personal care, light housekeeping, some laundry, exercise (if possible), outings, doctor appointments, meal prep and also errands for the spouse, if needed.
