Senior Companion

I have worked with Seniors for approximately 5 years. I have been a companion on various cases. I have dealt with varying degrees of Parkinson's, Schizophrenia, Hospice Care, Dementia, Diabetes, Congested Heart Failure, Alzheimer, Broken Bones, and Brain Injuries. I love what I do because I feel I'm helping the people to have a better quality of Life. It is not just a job to me it's a passion. We all need help at one time or another. I try and get my patients as mobile as possible and try to keep them as active as possible. It's not easy getting old or when you have a disability. We don't realize how lucky we are sometimes. It's just sometimes the little bit of love you show your patients or that you care that goes along way. You need to have a compassion for seniors to be in this field and lots of patience. Which I surprise myself sometimes when I realize how much patience I really do have. Sometimes it's a dirty job but realize if you were in those shoes you would need help too. Would you want someone to leave you dirty? On the bright side you get to learn a lot and will carry lots of memories, and knowledge and sometimes you meet some amazing people along your journey. The recognition that you give yourself to know you made a difference in someones live. What started me out in this field was probably the live experiences I had. I had mother who had lung cancer who I helped to take care of and a brother who had melanoma at age 38 and who passed away. Also, a father who had heart attacks and strokes and one day I received a phone call from one of my father's friends sons asking me if I would be interested in helping to take care of his father who had bone cancer and to assist his mother to get through it all. I did take the case. It was probably one of the roughest cases I have done to date but I feel I made his life and the family the best it could be at that time. Here I am today still in the field and loving it. Feel free to ask any questions? I would like to say to everyone please try and pick the person that most fits your needs and that gets along good with your patient or client. References are available at your request. Have a super day!
