Sylvan Elementary Prek

Sylvan School was founded in 1866. The first school building constructed on the present site was a two story brick and clay facility built by laborers in the community in 1912. Sylvan School started out as a ten grade school and gradually became a twelveyear high school. In 1960, Alamance County consolidated into high schools and Sylvan became an elementary school. Over the years a gymnasium and cafeteria were built and by 1968 a new facility had been built to house grades K-5. Grades 6-8 remained in the original two story structure until early 1974 when it was destroyed by fire.
