About who needs care: Dad has cancer and is under hospice care. However, we want him to stay at home and hospice only provides 24 hour care if he goes to a hospice facility. As family members, we are currently taking turns with the "night shift', which is when he needs help when his nasal canula for the oxygen falls off or when he needs help with negotiating the urinal. He is a fall risk, so can't be allowed to walk by himself. He has a hospital bed, so can't get out on his own, but forgets this, due to dementia. He uses a walker and has an elevated toilet by the bed.
He also likes to wake up in the middle of the night and have snacks.
Hobbies/interests : He likes to read and talk to people.
About the care needs: The ideal caregiver would be sweet and patient with him, while treating him with dignity. There are hospice nurses that come during the day to perform more technical tasks, which would not be needed at night.
Services needed include: feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
