About who needs care: Mom is still functioning both mentally and physically but has challenges with hearing, cognition, memory and physical capabilities. She has advanced osteoporosis and is fatigued a great deal. She relies on a rolling walker. She tries to do a little walking each day and likes to be outside weather permitting. She reads occasionally but has trouble focusing visually and mentally. She doesn't hear well enough to enjoy TV or audio programs. She requires caregivers for breakfast, lunch and dinner plus help at bedtime but prefers a break without them in the afternoon.
About the care needs: Due to her hearing no dialects or heavy accents. someone who is interested in learning new things. someone who is a creative thinker, can take detailed instruction, has the ability to take stock and think through a situation, communication with me and other caregivers as well as Mom is critical. Ability to cook is important as Mom has specific dietary requirements. Cooking is not complex but goes beyond simply warming food in a microwave. BP is usually taken once a day with an automated machine. There are daily logs for supplements, medications, BP, and food. Showers, laundry, general cleaning are also tracked. Mom lives in my bother's home in a small apartment like area. It is a busy family with 3 teenage boys and a large dog. My brother is only minimally involved with her care. I do not live in Orlando but I handle most decisions and all health care questions. We have a local Health Care Advocate who attends medical appointments, does meal planning and some cooking.
Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and bathing / dressing.
