The Matanuska Glacier is the largest and most magnificent glacier in Alaska with road access. We will drive you to within about 1/2 mile of the face of the glacier, where we'll start our hike. We'll be hiking on the glacier for two to two and a half hours, and walk about 2 to 3 miles. There is little elevation change, and the hike difficulty is rated as moderate. The glacier is about a two-hour drive from Anchorage. We will stop about half way there for a restroom break, where you will also have the opportunity to purchase coffee and whatever you'd like to have to eat while we're out. Bottled water is provided.

We'll visit waterfalls and overlooks, selected by our guides to include both the most iconic, like the unmissable Latourell Falls, a stunning plunge-style falls that is one of the most iconic in Oregon, and the special. Depending on weather conditions, this could include a few small hidden waterfalls and another spectacular plunge-style falls with columnar basalt. We operate rain or shine! We'll also tell you stories, not just of the geology and botany and the oft-repeated tales of pioneers and road-builders, but also the old stories we've learned, of gods and animal spirits and the Beaver princess tragically turned into a waterfall.

We stop at a quaint store in the canyon and replenish our coffees and snacks then we travel 17 miles into beautiful Oak Creek Canyon to the overlook. Up there we might find some local Native American traders and excellent picture taking amongst the beautiful Ponderosa Pine of Northern Arizona. Next we stop at the famed Garlands Jewelry store. Your guide will point out interesting areas and answer questions on any subject about Sedona i.e., dining, hiking, Native American history and Sedona’s unique heritage etc. then back to Sedona on a beautiful winding mountain road to another Native Market. Then back to the red rock scenic byway and the chapel of the holy cross.we may reverse the route to avoid traffic on busy days.
