Throughout the session, artists will work with a variety of mediums—including painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, clay, and more. We’ll begin building foundational art skills while encouraging personal style, creative decision-making, and plenty of imaginative exploration. Each project will be guided but open-ended, giving artists the freedom to make their work truly their own. New teen students will complete three pre-designed projects with their teacher's guidance to help aid them in learning how to set-up/clean-up supplies and materials, get a feel for what mediums are available, and allow teachers to get a feel for the student's level of skill and art knowledge. What They’ll Learn: Medium Exploration: Gain hands-on experience with a wide range of art forms, including pencil and charcoal drawing, acrylic and watercolor painting, clay sculpture, printmaking, and collage techniques. Project Development: Learn how to conceptualize, plan, and execute your own independent projects. With teacher support, they’ll refine your ideas and bring them to life. Creative Techniques: Develop new skills in various artistic techniques, from layering and texture in mixed media to the technical aspects of ceramics and printmaking. Explore the world of making your own clay creations! This class will teach you how to create several hand-built clay pieces. Students will be introduced to Kiln firing, and procedures, as well as stages of clay: Wet, Greenware, Bisqueware, and more. Each student will custom glaze each project, and have all pieces fired in our kiln. Many projects are “built upon” each class, so that students experience a variety of mediums and take home several projects.
