Summer Semester (May-August) This class is recommended for ages 10+ who have a basic knowledge of drawing and anime. Digital Art Supplies REQUIRED. iPad with Apple Pencil preferred. Class is taught using the program Procreate for Apple iPad, which is strongly recommended. Other programs may suffice, but we cannot promise a 1:1 comparison of lessons for any other programs used. Experience in procreate preferred but not required. We will study what makes a cartoon "anime," different methods, techniques, and all the formal elements you need to create your own anime art and characters. Students learn drawing techniques that will make their pictures look 3-dimensional, a foundation for strong drawing skills. This is a basic drawing class meant for beginners, though anyone wanting to strengthen their drawing skills would benefit from this class. This class is a fusion of traditional art projects and social team-building games; we will be learning how to draw and sketch quickly as we act out characters in a narrative, while also creating maps, portraits, and inventory sheets to fully design and flesh out a character of our own. This class will help you learn how to build worlds, create characters, and work with others on a personal and group basis.
