Kiwi is a wonderful daycare and preschool. Our LO has been attending for a little over a year (started at 2). Teachers: The lead teacher in our class is new to teaching (fresh out of school). This made me a little concerned at first but I wanted to be open minded. She has been wonderful. The first month was a little rough as she learned to apply her education to the real classroom but what she lacked in experience she made up in effort, willingness to learn and ENERGY. Further the owner is very hands on and all the teachers help each other. Curriculum: A curriculum is set each month for the entire school and then taught as applicable to each age level class. But the great part is their understanding that at this age (a) children learn through play and (b) they are simply learning how to be human beings. Add in some colors, letters, numbers and shapes for fun and it is a great combination. My LO always has a new song we are singing that she learned from school (for the days of the week, saying good morning and now counting). Extra-Curricular Activities: There currently are two offerings, soccer and gym. We have participated in soccer for a year and are starting the gym next month (we are just starting it now because our LO was a little too short to do the activities before). Both instructors are gifted individuals and bring another level of learning. I love that Mr. Rick (gym instructor) will barely speak above a whisper; this is intentional to teach the children to always listen for his voice. I believe these teachers have one of the hardest jobs, one that I could not do. With that I do try to help as much as possible, these teachers deserve that. I consider all these people second parents to my LO so I am very picky on her environment and stay involved with everything. The school has student evaluations every year however I usually am discussing some matter with all the staff on a daily basis and also have a longer meeting about every 3 months. These meeting are to discuss my LO intellectual, emotional and physical growth (because the staff are experts at all this craziness from potty training to establishing foundation for the rest of their lives). These meetings and daily discussions also make sure there is a consistent environment between school and home. We also have a serious allergy to fevers but all the staff knows about it and how to handle the situation.
