Deaf Caregiver

(26)
I'm a Deaf caregiver who speaks America Sign Language (ASL) & writes in English. I have years of experience with individuals with Dementia/Alzheimer's. I recently took care of an individual with late stage of Dementia/Alzheimer's. I was responsible for personal care, food preparation, exercise, and activities daily. I also assisted with cleaning. I am educated about Dementia/Alzheimerâ s, after attending many workshops & conferences about this topic. I understand how to communicate, especially around sensitive topics & at higher cognitive levels. I work well with both hearing & deaf clients and I enjoy caring for them at their home instead of a nursing home. This way we can enjoy each day with conversations and laughs- with my contagious laugh! For deaf clients, I rather to care for them at their home, it allows me to communicate and practice Deaf Culture, which is important for Deaf person to be comfortable in this stage of life. Bonus: I am a community health educator

Denise is a kind and helpful person. She is very knowledgeable about care-giving and hospice services for Deaf Seniors. She helped my mom after her surgery for a while. When it was time for my mom to have hospice services, Denise continued visiting and helping her. My mom always looked forward to having her visit every week. She is an excellent advocate for Deaf Seniors. My family really appreciated her services.

FAQs for finding senior care near you

What are my senior care options?

When it comes to creating a care plan for an elder loved one, there are different alternatives to explore depending on the wishes of the senior and their family, and the level of care needed. Some of the options are:

  • In-home senior care is a great option for seniors who want to stay at home and just need a companion for daily activities.
  • Nursing assistants can provide medical assistance for seniors in the comfort of their own home.
  • Dementia care is a suitable choice for elders with Alzheimer's or dementia who need specialized care at home.
  • Senior transportation is an option for finding caregivers who can drive your loved ones as needed for errands or doctor appointments.
  • Assisted living facilities are helpful when it's more convenient to move the senior person into a monitored residence where they can receive assistance with their daily activities and socialize with other residents.
  • Nursing homes can provide long-term medical and personal care for an elder loved one who can't be cared for at home.
  • How much does in-home senior care cost in 2025?
The average senior care rate charged by caregivers on Care.com as of May, 2025 is $20.25 per hour. This rate may vary depending on the services that you require from the senior caregiver while caring for your loved one. The hourly rate will also be impacted by your location, the caregiver's years of experience, level of education, and if they have any credentials or nursing degrees.
Are senior care providers background checked?
Yes, senior care providers on Care.com are asked to complete an annual background check called a CareCheck. Senior care providers who complete this background check will have a badge on their profile displaying the date it was run. While CareCheck is a good start, we strongly recommend that you follow some additional steps for hiring a caregiver safely, which include interviewing candidates, checking references, and running your own background check. Visit our Safety Center to learn more.
What services are included for senior care at home?
Besides companionship, most in-home caregivers for seniors can help with their daily activities, such as getting around the house safely, meal prep, light housekeeping, and medication reminders, as well as taking them for walks and driving them to medical appointments or errands. In addition to general home help for seniors, there are also caregivers who can assist with bathing, dressing, feeding, overnight watch, and dementia care.
How can I find an in-home senior care provider?
After creating an account, you will have the option to either post a job that can be seen by our large pool of senior caregivers, or you can also search caregivers from our platform, based on years of experience, hourly rate, availability, distance from your location, etc. After you have selected your candidates, you can schedule interviews, check references, request additional background checks, and hire the caregiver who best meets your needs.
Displayed caregivers have had active Care.com profiles within the last 60 months but may not have current active accounts or background checks. Results are illustrative only and may not reflect current availability. Care.com members have access to active, background checked providers.
