My step-son had the following disabilities: Autism, sensory disorder, ADHD, trachea, g-tube, breathing issues, Cerebral Palsy, non-verbal and may other medical disabilities. He was evaluated to have the mind of 3 or 4-year-old when he was 12 years old.
Through my interactions with my step-son, I learned to observe what others miss. I observe interactions, moods, tendencies and more.
I was able to notice my son's behavior change when interacting with a particular home-nurse, I contacted the school with my suspensions and the school discovered video proof of child abuse.
Everyone had given up on my son's abilities before I met him at 10. Essentially he was a 7-month-old baby in a 10-year-old body. In a year he was able to sit, walk and interact with the family.
I pursed a Master in Teaching Special Education to understand what was said during IEP meetings, now I assist others understand IEPs.
