I am a devoted, energetic mother of two grown children. I have experience working as a full-time Nanny caring for a 5-year-old boy where I was responsible for all child-care tasks. This included cooking, feeding, organizing play dates, driving to lessons and medical appointments - but more than that, with creating a safe, stimulating routine for the child. I supported his wide-ranging interests through books and art, engaged in educational activities (phonics, handwriting, numbers) and physical activities. I also performed many household tasks. I grew up in Iowa and have a doctoral degree. I've had several professions, from lawyer to boutique manager, but my most rewarding times have been spent caring for children. Care-giving comes naturally to me; I am responsive to a child's interests and moods, sensitive, flexible, and calm. At this point with my own children grown, I want to devote myself to another family, to help create a nurturing, engaging environment for other children.
Background Check

In 2015, it became necessary for me to take in my sister's 5-year old child. I don't have children and though I love them, I felt unprepared in some respects to take care of one on my own, especially since my work schedule is very demanding. Kelly Tiernan created a safe, stimulating, and nourishing environment for my nephew, one that he desperately needed during what could have been a difficult time for him. At the same time, she was able to take on other household responsibilities that I often neglected even when I was alone. Kelly generally worked for me from 9:30A until 6P but she was very flexible when my schedule required it. She handled every aspect of care and supervision for my nephew - preparing food, organizing playdates, accompanying him to various activities I arranged for him, handling medical appointments. But her contributions to his well-being and growth went well beyond that. Kelly read books with him in any area he was intrigued - and there were many - from mummies to dinosaurs to Dr. Seuss. She even began Hooked on Phonics with him so that he might become an early reader. She also encouraged him to draw, built Lego's projects with him, helped him with the guitar lessons that I was probably overly-ambitious in arranging, even taught him to throw a baseball. I quickly discovered I was also able to entrust her with many household tasks - grocery shopping, running errands, ordering clothes, even handling some IT issues, and perhaps most helpful to me, working with a contractor to complete a kitchen renovation. She never failed to keep my home running smoothly. I highly recommend Kelly as a Nanny and more than that, as a member of anyone's household. She is nurturing and sensitive with children, exercises great judgment, has boundless energy, is conscientious, responsible, and trustworthy to a fault, and is a creative problem solver. My nephew and I could not have had a better partner for our time together.
