Spring Semester (Mid March-May) This class is recommended for ages 12+ who have a basic knowledge of drawing, anime, and some experience with digital art. Digital Art Supplies REQUIRED. iPad with Apple Pencil preferred. Class is taught using the program Procreate for Apple iPad, which is strongly recommended. Other programs may suffice, but we cannot promise a 1:1 comparison of lessons for any other programs used. Experience in procreate preferred but not required. We will study what makes a cartoon "anime," different methods, techniques, and all the formal elements you need to create your own anime art and characters. PreK, Kinder, & 1st grade Art Program Overview Unlocking Creativity Through Core Art Foundations Our Pre-K, Kinder, & 1st grade Art Program is designed to foster creativity and build essential skills through a sequential and cyclical curriculum. By progressively exploring the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design, students not only learn art techniques but also develop a deep appreciation for art history. Here's what our young artists will explore: Foundational Concepts: Dive into the Elements of Art and Principles of Design to create visually compelling pieces. Drawing Skills: From observational and perspective drawing to life and figure sketches, students refine their ability to represent the world around them. Students will explore a diverse range of dry media, including graphite, oil pastels, chalk pastels, charcoal, and ink. Composition and Color: Learn the intricate concepts of 2D composition and color theory to enhance artistic expression. Painting Techniques: Experiment with various media such as acrylics, watercolors, and tempera, learning manipulation techniques that bring ideas to life. Art History: Travel through time exploring influential artists, both historical and contemporary, to understand their impact on the art world and society. Authentic Assessment: Engage in assessments that reflect real-world art critique, helping students evaluate and elevate their art. Personal Expression: Encourage self-expressive processes that allow students to communicate personal meaning and narratives through their artworks. Class Experience This ongoing class seamlessly extends our Pre-K, Kinder, & 1st grade Art Program, continuing from summer into the school year and cycling back each season. It provides a consistent, year-round art education journey for students. Jump in anytime! Class Requirements Age Requirement: Artists must be at least 4 years old to enroll in PreK-1st classes. Bathroom Independence: Children must be fully independent in using the bathroom to attend classes without adult supervision. If a child requires assistance in the bathroom, a parent or guardian must be present during the class.

This week we’re celebrating the truly iconic artist and activist Augusta Savage! Known for her sculptures and influential art gallery, Savage is responsible for educating and encouraging a generation of nationally renowned artists born out of the Harlem Renaissance. We will experiment with the tactile approach of clay by making an antelope bust. Students will expand their sculpting techniques while learning about armature support construction, troubleshooting with different approaches to balance and application. To top it all off, they will add their own lively touch by painting their masterpiece, focusing on value and form.

This week we’re celebrating the Lunar New Year! 2026 is the year of the horse, so we’ll be painting this majestic steed. Our objective with this piece is to capture form with stark contrast for an impactful image. Students will exercise restraint with this limited pallet as they challenge their dexterity. Art Lessons perfect for ages 4-6 years. 1-hour class We will use a variety of media, including watercolor, acrylic & tempera paints, oil pastels, mixed media, and clay for our beginner classes throughout the school-year!

The Kids' Studio class at The Atelier School of Art is a one-hour session for ages 8-11, focusing on building foundational art skills while encouraging creativity and personal expression. Students explore drawing, painting, printmaking, and mixed media through guided projects that introduce important artistic concepts such as composition, color theory, and technique. This class is designed to help young artists develop their skills and confidence in a fun and supportive environment.

Ages 4-6. THIS WEEK: This week we’re traveling to the seaside for this glorious landscape painting. With a focus on color and texture, students will discover various ways to imply depth in their art. Studying the characteristics of foreground and background, we will challenge their color mixing skills as they learn about atmospheric perspective. Dress for a mess!
