Hands-on Care Needed For My Husband In Durham - He has Huntingsto...
$22 – $32/hr • Full time • Starts Jun 3 • Durham, NC
About who needs care: He has Huntingston disease. He can feed himself, shower, shave. Struggles with putting on his short or pants for hisdexterity with his legs keeps him from getting his legs into the holes in his pants / shorts. With a few attempts, he gets it done. Once he can get his clothes on, he can go to the bathroom and pull his pants / shorts back up. Recent issues have been with some accidents with bowel movements. He loves to walk in the mornings but that is a concern for me since he walks way to far and it takes him a very long time to do that as the disease progresses. He wears an identity necklace, but he leaves the house wide open and turns on the porch light in daylight and throws the house keys on the mud room porch. We have an alarm system for the house. I can set it and he knows how to turn it off. But he forgives that of late, so I get a call from the security company.
He cannot cook anything in an oven or on the stove. He knows this though. He can use the microwave to a point to heat up frozen breakfast foods or leftovers. He is now having issues on how long to microwave dishes. He is used to pushing the 1 to 2 minute button until he feels it is hot enough to eat. I would prefer that he has someone to make him healthy breakfast foods and lunch. I make the dinner meals. I work full time in an office so I am not home during the day.
He watches his favorite shows on TV, but due to the new smart TV system, he needs my help to get it set in the morning before I leave for the office. He gets it after that.
We had a great male cat and very loving. Our male cat passed away 3 years ago and J was so lost without him. We now have a female cat which he loves, but she has taken to me more but she does search him out for petting which John loves.
That's all I can share for now.
About the care needs: J is very easy going. Someone would have to understand his current condition with HD. His speech is better in the morning and not so as it get later on as the his meds. He will tell a caregiver if he is hungry, but he tends to just pull things out of the pantry and eat it. No matter what. With his condition. how to say about hobbies. I can give more info in person.
