Seeking care for my grandmother in her 80s. Services needed: bathing / dressing, meal preparation, mobility assistance, transportation, light housekeeping, errands / shopping. No prior experience required. Female caregiver preferred. A little more about my grandmother: she can be reserved, independent. My grandmother is an introvert with very traditional values, which causes people to find her a bit cold at first. Once you get to know her you'll find her quite pleasant and a good conversationalist. She's always been very independent, living on her own since her husband passed away over 30 years ago. After a couple recent injuries, she understands that it's time to receive some assistance. I'm looking for someone who is patient. Our ideal caregiver is patient and understanding. My grandmother is not as sharp as she used to be, and sometimes needs things explained a few times before it clicks. She's been speaking English for most of her life, but Spanish was her first language. Bonus points if you can speak to her in Spanish. Sometimes she's chatty and sometimes she's very quiet. The ideal caregiver can sense her moods and know when she wants to talk or be left alone. My grandmother is an amazing cook, and often wants specific cuts from the store/butcher. While she's recovering from a shoulder injury, it would be great if her caregiver could help her prepare certain foods that she likes.
She's very easy going, but can also be very blunt at times. Her caregiver will need to understand that even if it seems like she's giving you an attitude, it's not always personal. It's just the way she is. You'll see that's she's actually a very sweet, caring, and truly thoughtful person.
