Experienced, Hard-Working Home Care

I am a highly educated and very experienced family assistant. I've worked in various care positions for over a decade, ranging from child care, to disability care, to household management, to tutoring. I like to clean and organize things. I like to set up play spaces so that they're really easy to pick-up and I'm one of those weird people that actually enjoys doing the dishes and laundry (it's a great excuse to listen to my favorite podcast, "In Our Time" which discusses history, science and philosophy.) My favorite jobs are ones where I also get to do tasks like groceries, weeding, changing the air filter, taking the car to get an oil change, or whatever else is needed! Most of my professional experience has been in the care professions, but other jobs I've held include: grunt-work researcher (summarizing textbooks and studies), hula hoop performer and instructor, data entry temp and a research internship in human factors engineering. As for my own personality, I'm a bit of a geek. I enjoy learning about the history of science, game theory, cognitive biases and so much more. I love reading, board games, playing laser tag, swing dancing, hula hooping, wall climbing and learning. In my past, I did color guard and medieval recreation (mainly sewing, embroidery, tablet weaving, etc). Before I moved to PDX, I used to run a critical thinking group in Columbus and I'm rather proud that it's been continuing on without me.

Home care Attendant/personal Attendant Part-time, But Full-time Negotiable. Available For Lite Housework, Meal Prep, Some Personal Hygiene Services, Medication Administration, And Companionship.

My experience has been working with mature and aging adults with developmental disabilities and some mental illness. I've worked with clients who were down syndrome, autistic, bipolar, and suffered from some depression, and behavioral issues. I worked in their homes as a personal support aid/advocate and life skills instructor several times a week. I handled a caseload of 4 to 6 clients daily, guiding them through household tasks such as lite housework, teaching cooking classes, cooking meals for them. I drove them to the grocery store to assist with healthy grocery shopping, to medical appointments for health maintenance, to and from their part-time jobs. I assisted with money management as well, making sure clients rent and other bills were being paid on time by the client. Whenever needed, I encouraged my clients to engage in healthy social activities - that were usually planned events, through the non-profit organization I was employed with. Little did I know, that through the course of my employment, I was actually being prepared to later be able to handle and manage being the mother of a "bipolar schizo affective disorder" adult daughter. Lastly, some other things about me that may be of interest would be: I am a professional artist and craft person. I draw and paint many subjects including portraits, abstract paintings, still life and landscapes. I make people and dog clothes, book marks and other crafts. I love to read. I love to cook. I'm a health and exercise enthusiasts who is a stage1a lung cancer survivor in my 4th year cancer free!!!! Amen!!!! I love being alive and celebrate life by doing everything that makes me happy as much as I can and I encourage others to do the same... live like there's no tomorrow.
