We invite you to attend a gospel Mass service on a lovely Sunday in Harlem. We’ll discover historic Harlem from every angle on this one-of-a-kind tour. Your guide will share fascinating anecdotes about this culturally rich Manhattan neighborhood that was home to such great African American figures as Marcus Garvey, Zora Neale Hurston, Duke Ellington, Josephine Baker, W. E. B. Du Bois, Louis Armstrong, Langston Hughes, and Malcolm X. Take this fun bus tour of Harlem to gain a deep understanding of the neighborhood and its magnificent architecture and rich history. We’ll pass by iconic landmarks. We’ll then enter one of the multitudes of churches with lively congregations that are vital to the community. We designed this tour as an introduction to dog mushing for those who want to experience the activity beyond just riding in the sled. If you want to experience the rush of running your own dog team, this is your chance. You will meet the sled dogs in our kennel and get plenty of time to get familiar with your team. Your experienced dog mushing guide will present to you the basics of dog mushing, teach you how to put on a harness, and line up the sled dogs in preparation for take off. Each participant has a full 30 minutes of practicing on the sled runners, learning how to lean into the turns, breaking, and leading your dog team by voice command only. A second 30 minutes you are spending in the sled watching/studying your partner practicing. You will get great insight into the art of dog mushing and have plenty of time to take pictures of this great experience.

Enjoy a truly Alaskan experience in the famous North Pole Alaska on a 30 minute dog sledding adventure. This ride includes informative commentary from your local guide as you glide through the snow covered forest.  You will be seated in the dog sled as the team of Alaskan Huskies whisk you down the trails. Your guide will be standing on the back of the sled driving the team by voice commands. You will have a short stop during your adventure to meet your team of Alaskan Huskies and take pictures. All outer layers of winter clothing are included.

Curriculum at a Glance Spring Semester – Course 4: The Aftermath In Novel IV, young authors will learn how to steer their explosive climaxes into emotionally satisfying endings. A particular focus will be on whole-novel and character arcs, making sure young authors are creating dynamic characters with complete emotional arcs and storylines are thorough and lack plot holes. After novel completion, we’ll have a strong focus on self and peer editing, guiding novelists to look at their finished products with a critical eye while not losing their personal voices in the editing process. In addition. there will be 4 live zoom classes with our Authors in Residence for the Teen Writer's Salon with tentative dates: February 28 - 11am–12:30pm March 28 - 11am–12:30pm April 25 - 9am-2pm (in person at SJSU)* May 23 - 11am–12:30pm Special Final Event: In person author** reading at Hicklebee's Books tentatively 5/16. *4/25 will be an in-person, full day workshop at SJSU
