    Paul's Music Lessons (Guitar)

    by Taylor Robinson Music

    Chicago, IL

Years of Experience: 14+ Location Options: In Studio, In Home Travel Radius: 8 Genres: Rock, Blues, Classical, Country, Acoustic Age Groups: Children, Young Adult, Adult Instruments Taught: Guitar Lessons Overview: I have been studying guitar for over 14 years through my own curiosity, private lessons, and academic instruction. I first started learning and writing songs in junior-high school, which is where my fascination started to grow. Though high school and after college I have performed many different styles and genres, and had the pleasure working with some truly great musicians. It wasn?t until college when I started learning classical guitar technique that I truly grew to love the instrument. Understanding the physiology behind techniques and incorporating music theory lead to a much more satisfying musical experience that I now want to share with others. Formal Education: Ball State University – Muncie, IN College of Fine Arts - School of Music -Master of Music in Performance -Primary Instrument: Classical Guitar -Studied under Prof. Paul Reilly Bachelor of Music in Music Technology -Minor in Digital Media Private Education: Studio-One Teachings -- Huntington, IN 3 years Performing Experience: I have performing with numerous live bands in Indiana and have recently formed a new band in Chicago. I have performed for churches, private events, festivals, arts walks, and weddings. Experience Teaching: I have been teaching privately for three years. I also held the classical guitar graduate assistantship at Ball State University while pursuing my masters in classical guitar performance. While there I instructed individual undergraduate students in proper classical guitar technique, the history of the instrument, and musical expression through etudes and repertoire. I also directed small classical guitar ensembles emphasizing cooperation, musicality, and professionalism in preparation for performances. -Reviews- Name: Paul R Date: 2016-02-25 20:52:26 Title: Paul Body: I have known Paul W. for seven years, first as an undergraduate student with a major in Music Technology with Classical guitar as his principle instrument and later as my Graduate Assistant pursuing a Master’s Degree with a major in performance. His graduate recital testifies to the quality of his performance abilities-which are exceptional. His responsibilities as my assistant were to teach and prepare the first year freshmen for their eventual and necessary progress to sophomore standing. This included his students performing during our twice-monthly recital hour and preparing for final exams at the end of each term. There is no question in my mind that he has a gift of communication and teaching that no other assistant I have had possessed and his students were the most thoroughly prepared. Other responsibilities included conducting two or sometimes three of the classical guitar ensembles and preparing them for performances on our twice-yearly Guitar Ensemble Concert and once again his abilities were without question. His groups always performed very well and it was obvious that each group was well prepared. Paul was always reliable and never late or missed lessons. During his studies with me he was always eager to learn and worked very hard at the tasks at hand. He is also a great person. I recommend him without question.

I’m primarily a vocalist and that’s where my early education resides but I’ve been heavily studying instruments in the past couple years to expand my arsenal. Primarily I use the bass guitar, but I could give pointers and basics about guitar, a keyboard, or even a ukulele.

However, teaching has played a major role in my life for even longer, as I have learned a great deal from being both a teacher and a student. As an instructor, I have, in addition to private music lessons, taught a wide variety of subjects to an even wider age range, including preschool basics, multiple levels of martial arts and summer day camp activities. My teaching philosophy is based on the notion that learning to play an instrument can be just as intuitive as learning to speak or walk. In this vein, I try to identify and adapt to each student's respective learning style which, I find, makes the process more comfortable, meaningful and rewarding. My main goal is for you to love playing as much as I do and, of course, to learn a few things in the process. So, whether your instrument of choice is guitar, bass or piano, I've got you covered. After watching the Jack Black film "School of Rock" he was instantly inspired. All he could think about, at such a young age, was being a rock star on the guitar. Ironically enough, one day Jordan was rummaging through some old toys and clothes in the basement when he came across an old electric guitar he didn't even knew existed. It was his father's who purchased it back in 80's in the navy. Instantly, he became obsessed with the instrument. He started to teach himself basic chords and notes, and then songs. Once his Dad noticed he had a knack for it, he enrolled Jordan in professional guitar lessons. He took them for about 9 years, right up until high school graduation. At that point, he started to play in numerous bands. Years later, he now resides in Austin, performing and recording for two bands. He's toured the country playing music and has written and recorded several songs. He wants to show people that music can be for everyone, they just have to find what they're looking for. Melody's Music Lessons (Piano)

    by Taylor Robinson Music

    Rockwall, TX

Years of Experience: 23 Location Options: In Studio Travel Radius: 0 Genres: Rock, Classical Age Groups: Young Adult, Adult Instruments Taught: Keyboard and Piano Lessons Overview: Melody's students love that she teaches them whatever they want to learn. If they want to dig into classics and learn how to read music, then that will be the focus. If not, then the student will learn chord progressions and theory, and will write their own charts and play in band. She even writes sheet music for her readers using a music notation software. Melody teaches piano and voice predominantly, but also has a few guitar students. She can teach audio engineering and how to get the best sound for any song. Melody's approach as a teacher is to make learning music fun. She was classically trained, so she is highly skilled in sight reading. While working their way through the lesson curriculum, her students will complete homework assignments and also learn how to write their own music. Melody is an accomplished professional musician who has worked with some of the best producers, and has supplemented her considerable musical education with online classes at Berklee, as well as through personal music mentoring from some of the industry's top professionals. Formal Education: Melody earned a degree in Chemistry from Northern Arizona University in 2012. Private Education: Since the age of four, Melody has been behind the piano. Melody's musical education began early, and she took private lessons for 16 years, learning from some of the best classical music teachers. She was able to read sheet music before she reached school age! She began studying voice, and in addition to taking private lessons, became the president of her school choir. Performing Experience: Melody has been teaching formally since 2006, at both the high school and university level. While in college, she was asked to student teach, and did so from her freshman year into her senior year. After graduating, she began her career as a high school science teacher. Although she had a wonderful career, in her heart she had really missed playing music. So in 2014, Melody joined a heavy metal band as their keyboard player, and later became a career musician after falling in love with performance and composition. Experience Teaching: In 2016, Melody moved to Dallas, Texas, to be closer to her family, and began teaching music lessons privately. She currently teaches about 40 private students whom she meets with in person each week. William's Music Lessons (Piano, Vocal)

    by Taylor Robinson Music

    Dallas, TX

Years of Experience: Around 30 years experienc Location Options: In Home Genres: Rock, Blues, Country Age Groups: Young Adult, Adult Instruments Taught: Keyboard and Piano Lessons,Vocal Lessons Overview: I was born in Dallas and grew up in different cities in Texas and Arizona. I’ve been singing and playing keyboards and harmonica in rock roll and blues bands since age 17. I spent a few years touring on the road where I worked with some amazing and talented people before I went to college where I studied art and music. I moved back to Dallas after graduation and have played in various rock and blues bands for many years. During the last decade, I have given lessons to people who wanted to advance their skills at keyboard and harmonica and singing without lots of drills and exercises. I don’t teach with sheet music. I try to give people the tools to learn songs by understanding their instrument and training their ear to understand what they’re hearing and how it translates to their instrument. I like to take on students who want to learn this technique. It’s a fun and hands on way to get right into the music if you’re a beginner, an aspiring performer or just want to improve on your instrument or improve your singing. I use only electronic keyboards and do not own a standard piano or organ. Over the years I’ve found it important to be as mobile as possible. Formal Education: Art, B.A. (Texas Tech 1980) Music, B.A. (Texas Tech 1980 Private Education: I have worked with some amazing and talented people over the last 30 years or so both performing and in the recording studio. I have learned more from them than I could any private tutor. Performing Experience: Irsquo;ve performed in Rock and Blues bands full and part time for over 30 years including a few years touring the U.S. Experience Teaching: I've been teaching for about ten years. It started when people seeing me perform would ask me to give them a few pointers. They liked my teaching style and it just grew from there from mainly word of mouth. -Reviews- Name: Date: 2016-02-13 15:35:25 Title: Review from Graham D.
