Depending on the child s individual assessment, we may start the program early if the child can demonstrate a basic knowledge and understanding. We also do sound recognition and basic adding and subtracting skills. The emphasis is on the children having fun learning. We want their first experiences in a school like environment to be positive and to promote a lifelong love of learning It is my personal belief that if a certain child is not ready for the program, I do not force it on them. I feel by doing so, I would only have a negative impact on their desires to learn in the future. This is not to say I will not push and challenge them to learn, just that it will not be pushed on them if they are not quite capable. They seem to let you know when they are ready. Small cues are noticeable such as wanting to join in the reading or just a general level of interest in what the other children are learning.
