About who needs care: This is care mostly for my Dad. Although, he lives with my Mom. She is fairly independent and currently is doing thebulk of the caregiving. My Dad has Parkinson's Disease. He sometimes will freeze mid-step. He has been a bit more prone to falls lately although he still walks fairly well independently given the condition. He deals with dementia related hallucinations (i.e. he may think that he sees something on the floor and pick it up or talk to people that he believes live in their apartment with them). He is not generally aggressive. Can be confused or disoriented sometimes. May not be able to finish some of his sentences or thoughts. Both of them are retired so most of the day involves errands, personal care, cooking, doctors appts (when applicable), and leisure activities (watching tv or listening to the radio).
About the care needs: I am looking for someone who exhibits patience, care, and empathy. Good with time management. Someone who is a good housekeeper. It would be a plus, if they have experience in health care and especially with patients with Parkinson's Disease. Someone who is ready and willing to complete errands and lend a helping hand. Someone who can take initiative and can observe their structured day so they can hopefully eventually anticipate some of the things that need to be done without necessarily being asked. My mother will always try to do things herself because she is willing and able. While I want her to keep her independence, I want her to understand that it is okay to accept help especially in relation to caring for my father which is incredibly overwhelming and challenging both physically and mentally especially for her as the primary caregiver. I help as much as possible but with a full-time job, it is hard to help as often as I would like to. Bilingual is another plus (English/Spanish).
