Wainwright Family Childcare

I run a small family childcare (maximum 6 children). My concentration is care for infants, toddlers, and two year olds. We are engaged in a play based learning "uncurriculum"; that is to say we learn as we play. During the course of our typical day,inclusive in our playtime is music, language development and literacy, science, large and small motor activities, socialization skills including cooperative play with others, manners, and caring behaviors. In recent years, I have taken numerous hours of continuing education in childcare specific to this younger age group, and participated in our state's Infant and Toddler Improvement Project, which was sponsored locally by our childcare resource and referral agency. In addition to my childcare experience, I have a lengthy background in emergency medical care and experience in pediatric urgent care. I have found this to be invaluable in recognizing childhood illness, and differentiating between simple minor illness and those that need the attention of a doctor promptly. This background also helps me to remain calm and collected should a healthcare or injury problem arise when a child is in my care. Lastly, I have found that it is easier to maintain a cohesive level of care for each child each day by keeping my age range relatively small.
