I guess the name is accurate because when my husband and I went for the tour, we thought that this daycare was a good choice for our 18 month old son. I was confused as to why my son would cry harder and harder with each day at drop off. I was assured that he stopped crying after 10 minutes each day, so one morning when I did not have to be into work until 9, I stayed outside the door to listen for myself how long my son cried. (my son and the teacher did not know I was there) it is also important to note that my son was part of early drop off, so he was the ONLY child in the room with the teacher. She did not want to try to comfort him, distract him with toys, play with him. After 10 minutes she snapped at him in a very unkind voice "Alright evan THAT'S ENOUGH". No 18-month-old child should be spoken to in this tone.
Then that day I pick up, I walked in to find my son standing a few feet away from a table where all of the other students were sitting. There was not an extra chair pulled up for him, and the teachers were not even paying him any mind. When I brought this up to the administration, I was told that it was because they knew that I was on my way to pick him up. What 18 month old child knows this? All he probably felt was the exclusion. It was heartbreaking. I was so stunned, I had to take a picture.
In addition to these two incidences, many times when I would pick him up, the students would be sitting in a circle around the teacher holding up her phone so they could watch Cocomelon. I did not pay good money to have my kid sit in front of a screen. The teachers were also never warm and friendly at drop off or excited to see my son in the morning.
Luckily, I switched him to Little Learners Literacy Academy the next week. He has now been there for almost 6 months. The teachers love him, they're always so bright and happy in the morning when we drop him off, they send updates and pictures, they give us constant feedback, and most importantly, he is taken to the park, they do arts and crafts, have music time, etc. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT choose First Impressions!
