I received my degree from University of Oregon in Psychology with an emphasis on Early Childhood education. I enjoyed researching the developmental stages of children. I found it especially interesting to compare how the different philosophies used for Early Childhood Education, did or did not seem to relate to children's development. With my experience, I did not feel that just one philosophy was necessarily the best. Every child is different, and so it makes sense to think that different teaching styles need to apply to accommodate to different children. Now that I am creating my dream of starting my own school, I decided to combine my personal experience working with the different philosophies, as well as my education and training on the development of children, to create my own curriculum.

I provide loving, family-oriented care to kids from birth through age 12. Care is available full-time, part-time, or before-after school. A walking school bus from Arleta school to our home is available for kids in after-school care. Care is available 7:45 AM until 6 PM, M-F. For school-age kids, extended care is available on late-start Wednesdays and on teacher in-service days. Art, crafts, cooking, creative learning, music and active outdoor play, and homework help are all important elements of our program. While we have many structured activities, I believe that kids need to be provided the materials and safe opportunity to explore their world in a creative way. Friendship skills are emphasized. On full-days, two snacks and lunch are provided at no additional cost. After-school kids receive a snack. I make every effort to provide healthful food with an emphasis on fruits, vegetables, lean protein and organic dairy. When possible, food is locally sourced and organic. Meals and snacks are served family style, with instruction on appropriate table manners and conversation. I can accommodate special dietary needs within reason but this may result in additional cost. Christian education - bible memory and stories - is available on an opt-in basis. I am a warm and loving 50-year old single mom of a 12-year old and a 10-month old. I am seeking state certification (scheduled for completion fall 2011) and am a certified foster parent who has cared for 11 kids aged 3 days through 12 years, many of whom had special needs. I believe that every child has the right to be loved and appreciated for his/her unique character and gifts, and encourage kids to learn through play and service. I am open at this location through December 23, then will be moving to a new location and reopening January 3. The new location is yet to be determined but will be in the same neighborhood.
