Hearts & Minds Childcare

1008 E 7TH STREET Newberg, OR

< 1 mi

My name is Janelle. I am a licensed, registered family care provider. I offer care for infants through 5th grade. My true joy in life is caring for children and partnering with them as they grow. I have been teaching children for fourteen years. My experience spans the age ranges from infancy to school age children. I have worked as a children's church director and teacher, an assistant director at an after-school program, a head teacher for preschool children at a corporate center and an infant caregiver. I am certified as a preschool teacher and in CPR, First Aid, and food handling. I am trained in reporting abuse and neglect. I have gathered extensive training in early childhood education including the topics of assessment, literacy in early childhood, Reggio and Rie philosophy, potty training, positive discipline, assessment, and curriculum implementation. At Hearts & Minds, I work with an educational approach based on philosophies of Reggio Emilia, Jean PIaget, and Vygotsky. I believe that all children are active learners and are full of ideas to explore. I believe that is my job to facilitate their learning through discovery and experiences. I believe children learn through play and construct their learning as they work together. My curriculum is negotiated as a conversation between children, teacher, and parents. It is further supported by the design of an open-ended and complex environment. The curriculum is emergent, individualized, project based and developmentally appropriate.

Hello. Thank you for stopping by. I'm fitting a lot of information in a small space. Please feel reach out if you have any questions. I was a private school preschool teacher until COVID hit. I chose to quit my job to be at home with my son. When he went back to in person learning I started my own preschool from home. It has been a big success! For the 2022/23 school year I am enrolling three students. Important bullet points: -State recorded program. -Follow HSD calendar for days off/holidays and start/end dates. -Daily snack provided by parents. -Accept 3 to 5-year-olds who independently use the restroom. -Friendly dog in home. -Smoke-free home. We begin at 9:00a.m. We greet each other then hop into morning circle. This is an interactive activity that includes the Pledge of Allegiance, date, days of the week, letter of the day, colors, shapes, weather, and counting. There are songs, discussions, and hands on activities with a focus on practicing self control, taking turns and respect. *I use Timberdoodle's Pre-K nonreligious curriculum. I'm happy to send you the link so you can see what it's all about! Language arts follows. We focus on identifying each letter then go back and attach letter sounds. Each day the students work on an artistic activity to really gel the information. *Friday mornings are reserved for arts and crafts. Next is recess. If it's not raining or hailing or super cold we head outside. We enjoy the neighborhood playground and usually take a nice walk through my safe community. On Fridays we venture out a little farther to the beautiful Century Oaks city park. When we return we refuel with a mid-morning snack. It's a great time to practice good table manners and independence. After snack, depending on the day, we engage in a plethora of activities including: printing, building fine motor skills and manual dexterity, mathematic comprehension, thinking skills, logic puzzles, social studies, geography, science, and emotional intelligence. We finish our morning off with a read aloud. It's a fun-filled, fast-paced structured morning. We continually practice good manners, self-control, and independence. We talk about feelings, learn to be problem solvers, and are always making keen observations. I love what I do and feel incredibly lucky to be able to teach from home. If my preschool intrigues you please reach out. I would love to get to know your family to see if we would make a good fit!
