Have you ever felt like you've hit a wall that you can never seem to surmount when it comes to your studies? If you are constantly struggling with your academics, investing large amounts of time into your schoolwork, only to get C's in return, then let me get you on the right track. Much of my tutoring experience involves helping people rethink the way they are studying and learning, and to help them approach each subject in ways they haven't seen before. I received a B. S. in Cognitive Science at the University of California - San Diego (Many people ask me what Cognitive Science is. In short, you can think of Cognitive Science as applied Psychology). Instead of focusing on behavior, we go into the brain using tools like EEG and fMRI to see what areas of the brain do what, allow us to think and feel, and how patterns in the brain vary from person to person). This background allows me to tailor my teaching abilities, as I can examine the material the student is learning, combine it with what I see in the individual, and make a unique lesson plan not just for every student, but for every session. You'll rarely see me bringing more than my computer, pen and paper, as I work with the materials that you're already using and do not allow myself to become rigid with pre- made, one-size-fits-all lessons. I have considerable experience in the management of ADHD, first and foremost my own. I have dealt with the trials of having ADHD my whole life, and I have helped people with ADHD of all ages. I've noticed that, unfortunately, trying to inform people exactly what it s like to experience ADHD to someone who doesn't have it is often very difficult, and a failure to understand can be a huge roadblock to a good education. If ADHD has long been an issue for you, you won't have to explain to me why you're spacing out at the window, or why you can't stop fidgeting. Over time, I'll prove to you that it is not only very manageable, but that you can do way more than you thought you could. I additionally have experience tutoring people with Dyslexia, Aspergers Syndrome, and helping slow learners in general, especially math. If you're tired of the same grade, the same teachers, and the same lessons you are fighting to understand, allow me to become your tutor. I tutor in a wide variety of subjects from preschool all the way through university. I've worked with little kids, teenagers, adults, and the elderly. My first session is always free, and I will travel to you, so there's no reason not to see if I can't help you learn from a totally new perspective. If you're interested, just send me a message with what your current courses or goals are, and I will gladly let you know what I can and can't help you with. I hope to work with you soon. James
