Caregiver, Errand-runner & Friend For The Elderly
I've worked at 3 different assisted living facilities in central Florida over the course of 10 months. I loved so many aspects of the job, but wasn't happy with others. Spending quality time with residents was my favorite thing, but didn't get to do that too often, because there were so many residents, or there was too much cleaning and cooking that I had to do. My main job for 31 years has been child care, so care-giving for the elderly was a natural progression for me. When I started at the first ALF, I loved it so much, I would, literally, dance up and down the hallways. I felt that I was born for the job. I made personal connections and friendships with every single resident in the assisted living wing, as well as in memory care.
I was great at helping residents with toileting & showers, getting in and out of bed, in and out of wheelchairs, and playing different kinds of games, as well as just talking & getting to know each other. I'd love to work with the elderly in their homes!
