Seeking care for my mother in her 80s. Services needed: bathing / dressing, help staying physically active, light housekeeping. No prior experience required. Specialized care needs: support for memory care. Female caregiver preferred. A little more about my mother: she can be lethargic, reserved. Mom's short term memory is getting worse but she has good memory of the past and knows her family. She is not active, walks with a rollator, and sits most of day. She has incontinence and does not get up to go to the bathroom or to change her pads as much as she should. Cannot bathe herself, struggles with personal hygiene and has frequent urinary tract infections. She gets exhausted just getting dressed. She has glaucoma and can really only see through one eye. She also is hard of hearing. My sister lives with her and makes sure she takes her medicine every day and fixes her meals, but has a very difficult time bathing her. Mom needs someone who can come in once or twice a week to help her shower and maybe clean the bathroom and her room. I'm looking for someone who is patient, chatty, firm. Mom needs a friendly but firm caregiver who will make her feel comfortable accepting assistance with bathing and hygiene. Mom does not want to live in a nursing home. She wants to stay in her house. But to do that she needs assistance -- more assistance than my sister or I can provide. She does not realize how poor her personal hygiene is and often does not seem to realize her pads and underwear are soaked.
