Miss Yashah is an exceptional caregiver. She has gone the extra mile again and again to make my daughter's time with her special, as well as convenient for me over the past couple years. The breakfast and dinner meals she provides are healthy and are a huge time saver. She thinks of all the details, from special events on odd school days off to birthday celebrations for the kids and even gave me a rose on Mothers Day! My daughter truly looks forward to any time spent with Miss Yashah. She is so kind and considerate and we look forward to working with her for the next few years!

ECDC Nursery School's Photo

ECDC Nursery School

11 Washington Street, Sherborn, MA

Costimate: $287/wk

ECDC is a nonprofit, tax-exempt corporation. It is a nonsectarian organization open to all eligible children and families regardless of race, religion, cultural heritage, national origin, political beliefs, marital status, sexual orientation or disabilities. Toilet Training status is not an eligibility requirement. Its goals are to offer the highest quality early childhood education for children ages two years and nine months through five years and to offer parents information and support on early child development and education.

ECDC has always believed that each child should be treated as an individual and has the opportunity to develop at his or her own pace with our low teacher/child ratios. The classroom environment promotes our philosophy that children learn through play with many independent choices available through the day. We have many self-directed activities as well as large and small group activities. We believe that the process of learning is more important than the product. Children are encouraged and supported by our trained staff as they play and learn. Having our graduates well prepared for kindergarten is an important goal at ECDC.

Goals and Objectives
Our classes are child-centered with activities designed to meet each child's developmental needs. The goal of ECDC is to foster social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth in a nurturing and secure environment. Our program has three different cornerstones:

* Learn Through Play: We believe that all preschool children learn best through play. Each child is treated as an individual and has the opportunity to develop at his or her own pace. Our classroom environment reflects this philosophy with many independent choices available through the day. At ECDC, the process of learning is more important than the product.

* Parent Involvement: The most effective education results from a partnership between parents and teachers. For this reason, ECDC was established in 1977 in Sherborn as a parent cooperative. Parents spend time in the classroom interacting with their child and the teachers. The minimum time requirement is quite modest, between 4 and 7 times per year in the classroom as your child's "guest." There are additional opportunities for parents who are interested, and additional involvement is welcomed.

* Qualified and Committed Staff: Qualified, committed, caring and enthusiastic teachers are the cornerstone of an effective early education program.

Classroom activities are designed to promote aspects of individual child growth and development. Identification and recognition of your child's needs are keys to his/her success. At Shining Stars, we work closely with the families enrolled to ensure every child has a rewarding, positive, and fun preschool experience.

2 Day Program
Our two day program places an emphasis on socialization, play, sharing, and conflict resolution. The children are encouraged to express their feelings in positive ways and to follow reasonable school rules. Each child is treated as an individual and expectations vary according to the age specific skills they have mastered. The activities and experiences presented promote cognitive, social, and emotional growth.

3 Day Program
In addition to building on the skills mentioned above, our three day program provides an abundance of academic learning activities. The children participate in a variety of age-appropriate skill building exercises. The Learning Centers are designed to promote peer cooperation, Kindergarten readiness and strengthen self-esteem.

5 Day Program
Our five day program allows the child to learn in a consistent structured environment. Age-appropriate activities are presented and implemented to encourage growth socially, emotionally, and academically. The daily routines include activities from all areas of learning: art, dramatic play, literacy, math, music, science, and writing.

Extended Day Program
Our extended day program is an extension of our morning routines and learning. A strong emphasis is placed on daily self-help activities, developing individual responsibility and becoming confident members in a large, social group environment. The longer day prepares the student to adapt to the full-time Kindergarten schedule.
