Ms. Marlene's NeighborSchool

254 Essex Street, Marlborough, MA

My program is designed to help children develop academically, socially, and emotionally. I really focus on giving kids the attention they need and deserve. I make sure they're comfortable, and I help them learn how to express themselves. We talk to each other all the time - about what they like, what they think about what we're learning, what they observe - everything! Another important part of this is helping the kids socialize with each other. I have helped a lot of very shy children become more comfortable expressing themselves.

Academically, I believe that kids learn through play and experience. I tailor existing curricula to meet the needs of the kids in my program. Days include reading, puzzles, dramatic play, dancing and music, and lots of activities like arts and crafts, painting, and playing with modeling clay. We also have formal learning time for new materials every day. During this time, we review the calendar, letters, numbers, and other topics we've learned about recently - like animals. We practice vocabulary in both English and Spanish.

Apart from the fact that I teach their kids, I want parents to know that I am very concerned about kids' well being. I observe carefully, build individualized relationships, and provide healthy, balanced meals. I pay careful attention, making sure all the kids are well.
