Luna and Eagle Eco-School

2548 Eucalyptus Ave, Long Beach, CA

Costimate: $281/wk

At Little Luna and Eagle Eco-School, we believe that children are born intuitive, and connected to themselves. Children become disconnected when we tell them not to feel their feelings or not to engage with the world around them. "It is our goal to provide an environment that helps each child to feel confident and capable, and allows children's own interests to help facilitate their learning and engagement. We believe that children grow, learn and thrive by exploring the world around them." My program follows a play-based and nature-based philosophy rooted in indigenous teachings. We believe children are wired for empathy, connection, cooperation, and kindness, and we encourage positive behavior. In addition to healthy child development, the care and protection of the earth are regarded as key outcomes of this program. Your child will develop environmental literacy, and a sense of connection with the natural world. At Little Luna and Eagle, we serve a healthy snack and lunch. Food and nutrition are valued in our program as Food is Medicine. We believe there is a direct link between nutrition and brain/gut health in children.Little Luna and Eagle Eco-School is perched upstairs in what we call the "tree house" of a spacious two unit building in the Wrigley area of Long Beach.

Our care environment is crafted so that children may explore various activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include a makerspace for tinkering, engineering, drawing & painting, dramatic play area (for social and emotional development), and light exploration area (sparks children's creativity and investigation).Housed in the art and science area is our guinea pig habitat. Children can care for one of nature's smallest furry creatures by occasionally adding hay to habitat or feeding one of the boars, Miles, a carrot.Nature is at at the heart of Little Luna and Eagle. Weather providing, children will have outdoor time everyday in my yard. Children will have the opportunity to distinguish bird calls, bird watch, to observe how crayons melt in the sun (solar energy), to play in sand, make mud pies, or sit under the orange tree to rest or engage in their own world.

We want to provide an environment that nurtures the wonder of each child, and supports their human development.
