Echoing James C, I cried profusely when we had to make the decision to leave CDM. We even considered abandoning our relocation plans and staying local JUST so that our son could continue to go to CDM. Why was it so hard to leave? Because Shauna truly truly cares for the kids and the families. She takes amazing care of them and her curriculum exceeded my expectations. Thanks to her and her team, my son is quite the chatter box for 19 months and knows more songs that I would have expected for a toddler that young. I highly highly recommend CDM!
New Milestone Preschool's Photo

New Milestone Preschool

2718 Hoyt Ave South, Astoria, NY

Costimate: $238/wk

In 2007, New Milestone was created with the mission of providing preschoolers with a safe, nurturing environment in which to grow and learn. Our program incorporates all content areas including; Art, Music, Science, Math, Social Studies, in addition to Social Emotional components. All areas are adapted and modified to meet each child s individual needs. We believe that the child s greatest tool in the creation of self is their play. Through play, children are able to actively explore, manipulate, investigate, interact, create, discover and take risks. Children are endowed with a natural curiosity about their world. With the manipulation of concrete materials, children can develop new understandings about their environment, relationships with others, as well as their experiences.

New Milestone Preschool works to create an environment that promotes self-esteem, self-confidence, self-sufficiency, and self-expression. Children will be provided with many opportunities to socialize and develop their expressive language. As schools based in the Reggio Emilias' train of thought, New Milestone views each child as the main character and contributor. Their primary role is that of communicator by verbalizing, using affect (facial expressions) and/or utilizing symbolic representation i.e. painting, sculpting, dramatic play, movement and music. We consider our environment as a fourth teacher, encouraging children to become aware of space, organization as well as aesthetics. Your role as the parent is that of partner. Furthermore, each teaching team's role is one of researcher and documenter.
